why should we take away the rights of families that are willing and able to support more children to have more children? especially, considering there's an inverse relationship between fertility & income, at least at the "country" level. this pretty much holds at the household income-level as well. in 2015, households earning less than $10,000/yr recorded 64.74 births per 1,000 women. households earning $50,000-$74,999 recorded 52 births per 1000 women. households earning $200,000+ recorded 43.17 births per 1,000 women.

are you really going to restrict my right to have the family i want to have, when my income bracket is statistically more likely to have less children than lower income brackets?

if you're only going to have the discussion that population is growing at an exceedingly fast rate, thus population needs to be controlled by placing absolute limits on the number of children a household can have... then sure, there's no real argument against that. the problem is more nuanced than you are making it, though.

Your comment on the last page about productive members of society is fucked up, just because someone is born into a household without the same resources as you or I experienced as a privileged white kid doesn't mean they don't add any value to society. On the other side of the coin, just because someone is educated or "successful" and not obese (as you indicated) also does NOT, by a long stretch, mean they are the more valuable. Sounds like you're arguing that rich people should be allowed to have kids because they can produce "productive members of society" while poor people shouldn't because low-income kids don't add value to a community. I'm not refuting that high income kids have better resources to be healthy and productive, they definitely do, but I'm baffled that you think that makes those kids more important or valuable than kids who don't have the same resources.

The adk's still have a great trail network where most people don't even know a lot of the trails and on a busy day you can find something empty or almost. It still sucks though. I get the permits because of all the people, but it sucks.

Idk people are going to do whatever, our population is going to keep growing, this thread is going to do nothing, but it's a bummer to see. Conservation can only go so far when there's this many people.

Personally I'd be very okay with a 2 or 3 child limit going forward. I get that on the one hand, some people are able to support a big family and give them a great life. I get that, and can see it as an argument. The downside is there will still be more kids than needed going forward who will get older and start their own families.

At a certain point we need to start thinking about controlling this shit. It's already pretty out of hand, but seems to be something to unpopular to discuss. Do people really need to have 7 kids? I get that in the old days there were less people, and birth control wasn't really a thing. It's 2018 though. Absolute worst case you can get free condoms.

I spent years in churches and don't really remember anybody that adopted kids. Obviously some do, but its not an ultra common deal.

They protest abortion (I was at the huge "march for life" in DC with my parents a few times and dozens of other protests) but then they don't adopt kids, they pop out more kids, and want to ban perfectly normal couples that aren't having kids from adopting.

If somebody is against abortion but has adopted a kid, at least they seem steady with their beliefs. There is no shortage of kids that need permanent homes and people need to realize that their genes probably aren't all that special.

SmokedGoudaMy only fear is trying to supplement the workforce with such jobs. Our economy is set up to have the amount of people now and even more. Less people and then less workers leading to shortages because jobs can’t be filled. Makes sense with automation, but humanity also shouldn’t die out. Social norms could take hold and then there would be no people. Kind of an issue. Don’t think it will happen, but like right now with the supply chain, could cause issues. The truck companies can’t find people to help transport goods. There’s over 100,000 openings in that sector which is unheard of.
