Coleg55I still use them when I’m not skiing gnarly stuff
FruitBootProthis season i learned that I now ski big mountain best with 40in poles, idk if that counts as tiny but it gets me to squat down and bend my knees in moguls and carving

Jemsare you blind? stupid? new to skiing? or just blind and stupid?
john18061806Either you're extremely lucky or you don't hit rails the same way most people do. I think a lot of my cracks were from mount hood. The rails get hot there from the sun beating down and their challenge rails are long as hell. Edge cracks happen from the edges heating up from friction on the rail and then hitting the cold snow immediately.
I really wish all ski companies weren't lazy chumps that think steel is good enough for edges (because it's not). Ski ompanies need to get off their lazy ass and hire a materials science guy on their R&D team to figure out a something for edges that isn't so sensitive to rapid changes in temperature.
DomRichardi’ve never heard abt edges breaking that way.
Farmville420Because it’s not really the reason why lol. Like everything he said is true but it’s not actually enough to rip apart edges. If quenching deformed the steel enough to the point of literally fracturing it, it wouldn’t have been an actual metal working process for centuries lmfao
Edge cracks occur when roughly 150-250 pounds of human slam down on it enough times for the cyclic loading to actually slowly deteriorate the lattice structure of the steel, or you bend the ski past the elastic modulus, or just plain slam so hard it cracks the steel.
ReturnToMonkeyLol yeah "heats up from the friction then hits cold snow."
Yep cus sliding a low-friction piece of metal for 0.7 seconds will sure heat up edges enough to heat treat them. The cracks totally don't happen from the repeated high amounts of bending and impact. It's definitely the thermal expansion/contraction cycles 😂
Seriously though. I could see thermal effects partially at fault for edges pulling out from the ski, as the plastic has a higher CTE than steel, but they definitely don't cause cracks! I agree that steel edges need to be replaced with a new material, however anything that's suitable will make the price go way higher.

BiffbarfThat's kind of the point though, a tempered steel is much tougher than a hardened steel because a tempered steel is somewhat malleable. When a steel is heat treated and not tempered it could become brittle, so forces that would otherwise bend the steel would cause a brittle fracture. It's not out of the realm of possibility that standing on some 2.5x2.5mm thin metal bars and sliding on them with your body weight at 20mph will generate enough friction to get pretty dang hot for a short period of time.

TOAST.Facts, this is why nobody does safety grabs off rails, you would burn your hand.
BiffbarfThere are different methods of heat treatment but most besides very brittle tool steels are cooled down or normalized at a rate slower than quenching old style so they're not too brittle. A steel that gets red hot and quenched on ice likely wouldn't even be flexible enough to shape onto a ski profile without snapping.
hi_vis360The line blade is just a worse version of a carving ski for people who are too image obsessed to rip on a carving ski
PakanakaSliding a rail 5050 looks way better than sliding rail normally especially sw.

d5rI don’t know how to put it into words but Nick Lomax in grindshoes is 200x more style than any backslide on skis I’ve seen.

ReturnToMonkeyLowkey I think this looks cool but also goofy and not even close to as stylish as if he had skis on.
dwt802Vishnu’s top sheets have gotten worse overtime. (They’re still cool but the older ones were sicker)
MaimHelpPosting insta clips is selfish in a way, like “oh look at me and how good I am” and is just to boost your morale
whereas full lengths is showing some artistic factors and shit and creativity

3maniaTell me you've never skied outside of Colorado without telling me you never skied any where outside of Colorado.
ThegenericskierThe park scene in NC is better than the other parts of the east coast
dwt802That’s because you’re too far away from all of it and haven’t experienced it
Jemsvermont can’t be touched
WoFlowzBush*
dwt802People ski bush from all over the state, mostly Burlington which is 45 away.
asparagusfor me fastslides and backslides are like crooks and 5-0s of skiing
FruitBootProfor me fastslides and backslides are like fastslides and backslides of skiing
Jemsskiing park on custom on3ps is one of the most clown things you can do and honestly I don't understand why people would drop 1k+ on some park skis unless they're just ass as fuck and won't do much damage to the ski
