Repairing core shots in base of skis

No wood showing. Just a gash. Would I be ok if I just cut off the base material that was peeled to the side?

If there is no core showing then it is not a core shot....cut the excess based off with a knife and drip ptex into the scrape. Then scrape off the excess after the ptex dries and cools

Take to a ski shop that can do tunes and they will fix it up. P-tex is hard to work with and you need to level it out with the rest of the base which is hard to do if you don't have a belt sander.

I would do what the above people said, cut off and clean out the gash and drip in Ptex into the gashes... if they are deep you want to fill it in a bit around and let it flow in and move onto a different spot, then come back a few seconds later so you do not create air bubbles in the gashes... Afterwards all you need is a metal scraper to smooth it out and if you want it professional then you need a stone sand grinder. I would recommend against using a hand held belt sander because you can end up burning your base or parts of your edges easily. The shop I work in we would do the exact same process I just said except obviously use the stone sand grinder, but not in every case, unless it is very wrecked on the bases as it decreases the life of the ski but does make it perfectly flat. Long story short cut off the excess base hanging off and make sure you CLEAN the base with at least Windex dry it. Never fill in Ptex when a base is wet as it can splatter and really burn you then just fill with Ptex and scrape, don't belt sand it and not worth taking to a shop if you know how to do it (watch a few youtube videos and your good no joke its super easy)

Same exact thing happened to me last year. I just took my skis to a shop and they fixed them. For future reference I would sand or cover the front ends of the pvc and any sharp wood edges on the base of the rail if you have one like that.
