Men's Superpipe Finals are about to go down in 20 minutes or so and it's always pretty nice to have a little chat while the events are going down for those who are watching!


Heres the rest of the ski schedule:
Women's Ski Slopestyle is tomorrow(Friday) at 2:30PM
Women's Ski Superpipe is Friday sometime between 7-11PM
Big Air is Saturday night between 9-11
Men's Ski Slopestyle is Sunday between 12-5PM

I loved his last run; everything about it was just perfect except his 1st switch 0 spin and the second 2 on.

I do agree that Jossi was killing it and it would have been sweet to see that full run of Henriks

I gotta say I think the highlights of this X games were Gus's pipe run and Kelly taking gold (and showing that the older ladies gotta get progressing a bit more). Really disappointed that the event organizers didn't have a good backup plan for unskiable big-air conditions, and that I missed out on large chunks of slopestyle for adaptive snow cross and halo 5 gameplay.

Also they played side by side comparisons of Jossi and Bobby's runs and Jossi was waaay further down the landing on the final hit. This is going to sound nuttier than squirrels but I genuinely believe it was the tighter, fit, outerwear setup Jossi had on. Like that shit is right inline with Bishop's theory of naked backflip overshoots. Supreme was actually a contributing factor in today's win, folks.

Sorry haven't read any of the recent posts but wow, just finished watching and have to say I hate x games more than I ever thought I would. HALO breaks during the slopestyle, while we miss slopestyle runs? Does anyone actually care to watch people play halo? Thankful I recorded it and could fast forward that shit. Also, first run triple corks both ways and he doesn't even get close to the podium? When this is exactly what X games wants. Stoked that Jossi got the win and that bobby brown refused to do triples. I think most of the riders are also starting to hate the X games and what it's doing to the sport.

Once again, the highlight for me was watching henrik do what he does best, have fun and keep skiing steezy

I watched the halo turny online via ESPN3, so yea, some do watch it. They werent going to show it on actual broadcast I thought. The series has been over since last night so idk why they would still be showing it

beantownsmugglerOkay so usually I'm super against the people that are hating on Gus but I can't help but feel as if this entire event is pretty rigged in his direction. His run was sick and all, but I feel as if there was a run or two that was a lot more impressive than his. Not to mention how every 5 minutes there's a shot of his boyfriend and the rainbow flag. They also just gave a "Gus' boyfriend's reaction" replay of his run. It's getting ridiculous.

Bummed to see Wise go down.

semi related note - why is every slope trick a dub 12? is it set up thing so riders will get a forward and switch hit? are 14s and 16s just weird rotations? curious.

Props to the judges. Andre rag(um)giltiti threw some dope triples but with no grab on the 2nd, and he came off early on one of his rails which overall weren't that hot. Glad to see that style was for once taken into account, mostly on account of the bad weather but the progression has become annoying. I bet most of us were pretty bummed that bobby got 2nd in big air with his generic triple we've seen too many times and edollo got 4th even though he was going for one of the sickest tricks to date. Jossi's been hosed so many times for going for style over the years and was finally rewarded. This is the direction comps need to take, bad weather or good.

Phil-X-That was absurd. After the injury they should have cleared snow or called it off. You had 4 or 5 pros straight air because the conditions were so bad and bobby even did a ride up. I was expecting so much more from that :/


absolutely brutal. having worked on many slope style comps of all levels (at least 5 so far this season), the painfully obvious course of action would be to have the event team running slip laps so speed doesn't get fucky. thats basic shit.

Same here. I've played against all those professional guys online in Halo (ranked 8th in world in H5 at my highest).

Also like skiing. Nobody gets along.

I get that people don't want it to be a part of the "X-games" because it's supposed to be about /action sports/ or whatever, but I wish people would have even a sliver of empathy, but that's always too much to ask these days.

They both take an immense amount of skill/training and everything and are both competitive. I think people get hung up (in general, not necessarily in this discussion about the "X-games", ill get to that later) because it's described as a "sport" and people think "sports" necessarily involve athletics. According to the OED it is easy to determine that, however, really its a matter of your point of view. I view it in the same lens as golf or chess, so whether you call that a "sport" or "competition" or whatever it really doesn't matter. (As shakespeare says "a rose by any other name...")

Now, as to its inclusion in the X-games I understand the dissatisfaction w/r/t the rewarding of an X-games gold medal to professional video game players and everything. That being said, its inclusion here is mostly due to the X-games sharing a market (18-25 male) that "esports" also caters to. Also, the X-games were established as a project by ESPN to get into the emerging market of "action sports". Similarly, ESPN wants to get into the emerging market of "esports" and the X-games is a convent way to get into it.

TLDR just have a little empathy i guess

I understand people are into video games, but to just all of a sudden bring it in and jump back and forth between skiing slopestyle is bullshit. I for one, could care less about video games and I don't want to have to watch it until they randomly decide to cut back to slope.

16 is a fuck ton of spinning and after doing a cork 7 its probably easiest to dip another cork 5 or underflipy thing because you can spot a switch landing vs another entire cork 7. dub 12 mute has most definitely become a set up trick for a switch hit. Sw dub 12s are sick IMO. They need to mix up the grabs more.

Semi related note - Bellemare had a sick sw dub 12 japan + the steeziest rails + the hand drag dub which was $$$$

Watching the coverage of X games this year on TV, I am sure I will never do again. I can't even remember the amount of things that I hated. Was it the splash of bullshit every half hour? Yes. Was it the video gaming? Yes, although it got my attention for second. But the part that really made me say fuck xgames is when Bob did his first run and did a double on the last jump the reporter came up and was like bob are the conditions effecting your ability to do a triple? His response was I wasn't trying to do a triple soooo no... just garbage.
