The left absolutely has to take some of the blame. I mean cmon, with how far swung the left has become in some places, it's going to shock some people. This whole Trump thing is a backlash from the hardlight right wing side of things against that...

These are people who see affirmative action as an attack on their race and gender, who see same-sex marriage as an attack on their religion and who see the whole transgender thing as an attack on their brain. Hell, some of them are just siding with trump as a means of trolling people, or for getting attention when they really couldn't give a crap about national politics in the first place.

Truth be told, Trump isn't riding some national wave... he's riding the wave of a thought process that's far in the minority. The Republican party is divided, and disillusioned between those who are more interested in fiscally conservative principles, and those who are more interested in socially conservative principles. That's why you have this advent of the tea party in the first place - due to this divide.

The political pendulums have been swinging for a long time... the far right 1950's McCarthy era ushered in the explosion of the 1960's and early 1970's... which in turn created the Reagan/Bush neo-conservatives of the 80s and 90s which overreacted to everything... spurring on a massive liberal backlash, which has freaked out the hardline right wing so much that it's jumped on this Donald Trump political incorrectness train. Both sides of antagonized the other here all while the majority who are moderates holding socially liberal opinions along with fiscally conservative leaning ideals are caught in this crossfire.

Eventually things may even out, but truth be told, we've always been extremely divided in this country ever since the debate over federalism... It's just ever so much more highlighted in today's world.

I would not be surprised if there were more than a few who voted for VP Gore in 2000 that voted for Little Hands Trump in 2015. Maybe even a few who voted for Senator Obama in 2007 and 2008 have 'switched' sides.

Yes because Obama who dropped more bombs on the middle east than any other president is just so pacifist aye!

Hilary who signed some of the biggest weapon deals to rebel forces in the middle east is just so pacifist aye!

Saying that we should treat people with respect and not judge people on the basis of their skin colour, religion or whatever is hardly being pacifist. It's called being human.

And if you look at the reasons people vote Trump, it mainly comes down to the majority saying that they feel the two major establishment candidates are ignoring them and they feel disenfranchised by both parties. And then some political correctness and what not.

Look at Obama, he's deported more illegal immigrants than any other president and yet according to the right Obama is some push over that makes Mexico laugh at the US.

I just think Trump voters are incredibly uneducated with regards to politics and swallow up Trumps rhetoric because it's what they're thinking. But in reality if you told a Trump voter that x president deported over 2.5 million illegal immigrants they would be over the moon ecstatic. But then if you asked them what they think of Obama they would call him a pussy and bowing down to illegal immigrants despite X president being Obama.

"Donald Trump's vow to round up and deport all of America's undocumented immigrants if he is elected president could shrink the economy by around 2 percent, according to a study to be released on Thursday by conservative think tank the American Action Forum.

About 6.8 million of the more than 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally are employed, according to government statistics. Removing them would cause a slump of $381.5 billion to $623.2 billion in private sector output, the Washington-based non-profit said in its analysis."

He said this morning this would be offset by increased legal immigration, but currently the process takes up to 2 years. I know these immigrants would not be removed at once obviously, but those leaving will almost certainly outnumber those coming in.

Here is another gem:

""Instead of that, we could be raising money for the Republican Party. A lot of it. I have a lot of friends ready to give a lot of money to the Republican Party. And they're not going to do it until they find out whether or not I win. I have friends that are going to give tremendous amounts of money to the Republican Party.""

So, he decries Hillary taking on money from PACs and saying it is influencing her decisions as a politician, yet, he is going to have personal friends giving money to the Republican Party and Republican PACs...

The fact of the matter is this country depends on immigrant labor (legal and illegal) to keep the cost of commodities at an affordable level. Not only that, but we import a lot of food from good ol' mexico itself.

If trump does what he says he wants to do you'll see food costs sky rocket. Going to the grocery store will literally be a joke.

In 1993 America sold nearly $10 billion-worth of cars and parts to Mexico, at today's prices. By 2013 that had risen to $70 billion.

Exports to China grew by almost 200% between 2005 and 2014, with agriculture and the aerospace and car industries leading the charge. Some workers have benefited from rising exports, because firms that export pay more; one estimate puts the export wage-premium at 18%. Outsourcing low-wage assembly has also increased the productivity of America's high-skilled workers.

Yet on the extreme assumption that every dollar spent on imports replaced a dollar spent employing an American, Mr Lawrence calculates that between 2000 and 2007 Chinese imports caused, at most, 188,000 of 484,000 annual manufacturing-job losses. A recent, more detailed, estimate by Daron Acemoglu, David Autor and others chalks up about 1m of 5.5m manufacturing jobs lost between 1999 and 2011 to Chinese competition (with similar-sized job losses in other industries).

This implies that many other factors are in play. Technological change is probably the prime culprit for shrinking manufacturing employment. Productivity increases in the industry have been staggering

But another recent achievement of trade economists has been to show that trade-induced job losses, while relatively small, are particularly painful: more so than those caused by technology. Until recently, most economists assumed that displaced workers could find new work relatively easily. After all, in June 2007, on the eve of the financial crisis, unemployment was 4.6%—lower than it was before the recession of the early 1990s. Between 2000 and 2007 Americans left 5m jobs a month and started 5.1m new ones. A million or so jobs lost to trade with China over more than a decade seems tiny by comparison.
But many workers displaced by Chinese imports did not simply find another job. Mr Autor and his colleagues have shown that, at local level, employment falls at least one-for-one with jobs lost to trade, and that displaced workers are unlikely to move to seek new work.

You can oppose protectionism, or you can oppose redistribution. It is getting harder to do both."

What is sad in all of this is that Trump is actually a very middle of the road guy. He just is willing to stoop as low as necessary to gether votes whether he actually believes in his words or not... I'd bet not because the guy is very smart.

But for anyone with a moral conscience he is totally unelectable. It honestly is a huge character flaw in my eyes if you vote for him... That has never happened before.

It's funny. If Hilary gets elected I hope she keeps her promises. If Trump is elected, I hope he breaks all his promises.

The Issue is most countries in Europe have gotten addicted to freeloading National Defense and a somewhat stable global trade environment off the United States.
As much as everyone loves to hate on the United States' global impact none of you want Russia or China dictatong international policy. The UN is a fucking joke. The AU has more teeth than any organization of blue helemeted peace keepers.

Nope, some semblance of world stability is brought to you by the forward deployed Americans, Australians, and Brits. Our world is full of bad dudes who want to take us back to the Middle Ages. Someone's gotta put warheads to foreheads.

Trade what exactly? Trading that is on relative parity to surplus is non-existent for the United States. US prosperity is sinking like a rock, the debt will soon be at a crushing $21 trillion, which means there will never be a way to get interest rates back to reasonable levels without crushing the economy. Soon, substantial amounts of tax revenue will go towards financing the debt, while the infrastructure and our military crumbles.

Meanwhile, China uses trade to siphon wealth from other countries to enrich itself and build itself into a military power, using a never ending supply of dirt cheap ant-like labor provided by its subdued population. Trade with China has been a disaster for the US and has served primarily to increase the wealth of the people at the top. Meanwhile, what skilled jobs we have left are being destroyed by "free trade in services", as companies import cheap labor from elsewhere.
