I'm a senior in high school, and taking a video/media production course at a vocational school. I want to continue in the video production area when i go to college, but would like to have my own camera. We use the Canon GL1 in class, and I like the camera and am very comfortable with it, but i was wondering if there are any others within the same price range that are better. I'm getting a Mac G4 set up with final Cut for editing, now i just need to make up my mind about a camera. Any horror stories from E-bay? Because I think thats where I will get the best deal on one...anything you can offer would be great. Thanks.

I'm a senior in high school, and for the price and quality, CANON is the way to go. Panasonic has been doing well in my mind lately, but canon has always been the best.
I'm buying a G5 I-Mac for college with Final Cut, and i will be getting the GL-1. It's my favorite amateur camera out there right now, and it's been my camera for two music videos and four thirty minute movies.
Get it.

Alright thanks guys. Someone told me a Sony VX2000 was the way to go, but I really like the GL-1, so i'm sticking with what works.

I've used both the Vx2k and the GL-1 and I prefer the sony to cannon. when you break it down they both do the same exact thing with nearly the same quality, its just the little annoyances about how slow the cannon responds to pushing its buttons that pisses me off about it. They are both great cameras by any standard though, and one couldn't go wrong with either.

get a sony if you like your camera to fall apart. i seen soo many high end sonys fall apart/duct taped together that i would never buy one.

'pklink04' - nope, you probably won't find a brand new GL1. it's no longer produced. Canon replaced it with a very similar camera, the GL2. basically the same deal, but with a few 'new' options. i think the idea with the GL2 was to produce something that functioned like the XL1. more professional feel supposedly. you can probably find a good deal on eBay for a GL1..$1500 range.
