I can't for say for certain that money = happiness but I bet you the lack of funds can result in you being unhappy. I'm debt free but those that have debt in their life can prob tell you how big of a stress it is.

I think one of the biggest factors that contributes to being happy is being content with what you have. If you start there, everything else is a bonus.

Money for the most part can aid with most of your problems but I don't think it will make you 100% genuinely happy. Fuck yea you can buy skis and a lift pass but what you really get is an awesome experience out of it!
I dunno, if money is numbers and numbers are never ending your search for happiness will be never ending as well. You can never have enough or be content with what you have

Anytime I work overtime I tend to put the hours into my comp bank instead of getting the extra money

I tend to value my time off from work more than money but if I wasn't making money I would be stuck with time off to do nothing

well, if i were rich i'm sure i could answer this more accurately but i think in some ways it would. although i would be perfectly happy living the ski bum lifestyle working at a local ski shop and shredding everyday at my favorite mountain haha

As someone who grew up with not to much and now makes a lot...money is my soul goal in life and brings me immense happiness. Its certainly not an end all problem solver but it makes shitty times a lot easier.

Also, this perception is completely fucked. Rich people aren't always happy, or someone who comes from a rich family. Some of the happiest people I know are broke as fuck. Money =/= happiness and anyone who says yes needs to rethink their priorities.

To be honest not really to an extent. Yes i love having money to buy shit, but buying more stuff just costs more money to maintain and all that. The happiest i am is when im a broke skibum because i can do what i love everyday. Now i make sick money, but i come home to a nice house and cant just go do whatever i want. Bit of a trade-off i guess.

Studies have shown that money increases happiness up to a point. (The study found that an income above $80,000/year failed to produce any additional benefit).

Like eheath said, you need a certain amount of money to be independent, but past a certain point it's unnecessary.

It all depends on your perspective. For me, making enough money to pay the bills and then having enough left over to feel comfortable and go out and do things I love is a great feeling. Since college, I have moved from job to job with increasing pay, but I would not say I'm any more happy, I just tend to worry less about it. That being said, there are always other things to worry about.

Money has no correlation to happiness. Rich people are depressed and poor people happy and vice-versa. It is perception that changes everything.

This. Check out Maslow's hierarchy of needs to get a better answer to your question. If you don't have enough money to meet your basic needs, then you'll be unhappy. If you have that, then that's where personal enjoyment and inner peace comes in to play, and money doesn't factor in as much.

Here's my late night philosophy rant

Happiness is about satisfaction. Am I right here? Think about it. If you are satisfied, TRULY SATISFIED, you are happy, no matter what! You have no desires, and theoretically everything you want. Now, satisfaction is many different things for many different people. It could be a brand new pair of planks, landing a big trick, or having a warm bed to sleep in.

Satisfaction for a homeless man could be his ability to walk. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes homeless people are grateful for the little they have because they have little to begin with. So lets say that. He is happy, because he is satisfied (now more happiness could come from a hot meal, resulting in more satisfaction, .: more happiness)

Satisfaction for a wealthy man could mean he finally bought his dream car. HOWEVER, I am not saying that he one of those rich people who buy so much in attempts to satisfy their desires, i'm saying he is truly satisfied with his car he bought.

Satisfaction means many different things to many people.
Logically, satisfaction is to have all your desires met. If you have all your desires met, you have no need for money! Let's say you are the first man to become 100% truly satisfied with what you have. You would not want money, unless it meant keeping up to that 100% satisfaction. If someone said to you "Want a thousand bucks?" It wouldn't make you happier nor sadder, because you would have everything you want, and if you have everything you want, that 1,000$ isn't one of them.

So, sort of long story short, money CAN make you happy, IF money or something that needs money is one of your desires. It's all about satisfaction. When we receive some bonus money, of course we are happy, but that's because it's one step closer to being 100% satisfied.

Don't look at money as the answer for happiness. Look at it as a resource and a tool to help provide with basic necessities and life enriching experiences.
