I've noticed that freeskiers at high levels of skill tend look down on and make fun of the type of kids who try excessively hard to look like pros or just stylish good skiers, even though the kids themselves are not even close to being at those abilities. These bandwagon gaper kids dressed in all saga, full tilt, and line (etc.), but straight up suck at skiing make a lot of us annoyed. They annoy us because they think that the things they (or most likely their parents) buy, such as specific trendy outerwear, boots, and skis can give them the ego and pride of being cool, which is actually achieved by being an actual good skier. However, this type of skier is essential to the freeskiing industry, and even our community.
One of the most essential parts of the freeskiing industry is sponsorships. Skiing companies sponsor skiers that are young and up & coming, all the way up to the top pros. These companies don't give you discounts, free stuff, or even pay you to ski, just for the fun of losing their money. (That would make no sense.) They support skiers that they believe are so influential that they market their stuff just by using/wearing it. So when someone sees a really good skier using/wearing certain things, they want to buy those things, because those things are cool and trendy.
So, my main point is, anyone that is buying from a skiing company is supporting that company, and making the sponsorships on that company's team possible. So when you're looking down on someone who's outerwear and gear doesn't represent their skiing ability, just remember that without those kids, there would be no pros, and because of that, most likely no free skiing community. So, don't say you want to be sponsored if you don't want the less advanced skiers who look up to you, to try to dress, ski, and be like you.
