I hate ski patrolers

So today, me and some friends headed up to big sky, which is about an hour from where we live, and is a huge resort, with a shitload of tourists at it and stuff. So we were just coming down from the tram, and had to come down this groomer, and me and my friend did 180's over this mini roller and skied the run switch. Well this ski patrol comes down, looking really fucking pissed, and skis right up to us and starts chewing us out. It went a little like this: 'you boys, you understand that by doing that you were endangering everyone on this hill? this run is not for skiing backwards, as you can see, there are people snowplowing down this. Skiing backwards in a blue is just bullshit son (looking to me), and frankly, your lucky that I don't cut your pass right now.' and went on like that for about 10 min. And then as we were heading down, we were being smartasses, and just carving back and forth, and he was right behind us, and he goes 'You think i'm kidding? Ill do it.' Man, what a fucking ass whole. The slope wasn't even crowded/

these 2 ski patrollers flattened this jump these 2 kids were building today at Bridger. I also couldn't throw my attempt at a cork 3 off the road b/c it usually ends up inverted, and you know how much bridger hates that.

I remember last year at 7 springs me and a couple buddies were filling in the crater to the flat box. It was like 9 pm so the thing was about a foot deep hole and landing switch was a deathwish. Then the patrollers come up and tell us to stop building ramps (because it makes sense to build 'ramps' at the landings of boxes).

Anyway the next day we saw a couple snowboarders building on to the flat-down bar so that it would be a ride on. We went up and told the patrollers and they just said, 'don't worry about it if you use enough speed you can still gap to it.'

I hate em.

well you are only a danger if you cant ski backwards properly ... can you ski backwards properly?

i've got a feeling you/your friend can not ski backwards and were dangering everyone, hence the ski patrollers told you off

i've patrol, and the majority of patrolers i've worked with dont give a shit if you ski fakie, its the same thing as a boarder riding switch - just dont do it like a freak with your arms waving everywhere and not looking over your shoulder

I bitched out last season because my season pass was tucked into my jacket while I was riding the park. Then this year so far I've already been bitched out because I was listening to music, and apparently thats not allowed. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have to talk down to you like they do, they treat you like your scum and it just makes me want to beat someone over the head with my pole.

Ski patrollers arnt bad Im going to be full time ski patroller next year. I mean other than pro skiier and ski instructor how many more ways do you know of to get payed to be on the slopes all season. youll find assholes in every profession just because you met one that happened to be a ski patroller is no reason to think that all ski patrollers are assholes.

Ski patrollers don't get paid much, even professionals at major resorts.

Sucks you guys have had bad experiences with trollers at your hill. Out here they're generally too busy doing the shit patrollers are supposed to do - bombing slopes and taking care of injured people. Don't think they're all dicks just cause one of them decided to ruin your day.

well KLD i would like to say that you can indeed ski switch safely however it seems more likely that you were not skiing safely in order for a patroller to threaten you

young patrollers think its sweet (unless you're riding like a dickhead) and let it go. Older patrollers are just getting used to the newschool movement and tend not to say anything because they are more in awe

It seems very unlikely that a patorller would threaten you for no reason but the fact that you were riding switch .... oh yeah and being cheeky and riding off switch just shows you're an arrogant fucker who was probably riding like a dickhead in the first place but is to much of a poser to see how gay he really is

hence i can make the assumption that you are shit at skiing switch

i like the patrollers at my hill. they've saved my ass twice.

not to mention that they're pretty chill about building jumps and stuff. now that I work at the hill, all that I really need to do is go in to the patrol shack with a buddy and a shovel, and ask to build a jump. they say yes, we jump off of things, and tear it down when we're done.

before the park opened up, we found some railroad ties, and set them up as a log rail. we were way out of the way, and patrol stopped by, and just told us to move the ties out of the way when we were done so the groomers wouldn't hit it.

you know what you should have done, just say ok its a beginner hill and im learning or practicing my switch skiing. Whats the difference between learning how to ski forwards and learning how to ski backwards. The only difference is that i can stop if anybody gets close to me where they cant.

shlonginater, you def can't make the assumption that i'm a poser. I didnt ski off switch you piece of shit, and I wasn't out of control. Reread the origional and try to understand what i said. Why are you so for the patroller that you can't accept I was doing nothing wrong skiing backwards, in control, carving back and forth I might add, and he was a dick. You also cant call me a poser untill you see me ski either.

fuck the ski po most mountains i go to the always bother me. like this one time i smacked this women in the face by accident with my pole wheni was riding switch through this crowded run and they chased me all the way to the bottom. Also the other day at okemo I saw this roof jib on the side of a trail but there was a fence in the way so i ripped it out and the fucking ski po women was right behind me. she told me to give her my pass but i was like fuck that im not giving u shit. I payed 50 bucks so for the next 6 hours its my mountain

ok maybe i read it wrong and you may not have been riding away switch but you were still being a smartass. Which in my experience is a common trait amongst posers

I'm all for the patroller because,
1. They deserve way more respect than you're giving
2. They may one day end up saving your life and 3. chances are that patroller has been skiing twice as long and is twice a better skiier than you are and knows when someone is skiing dangerously even when they dont know that for themselves

KLD take a good look around at the past posts and you'll realise that i'm not the only one on the side of the patroller

i do the junior patrol at mt sunapee on weekends and it is so much fun. my junior advisor has troublemakers and we made it our goal to sweep (ski trails at the end of the day checking for people) every trail switch. If we're going through the park he tries and does the rails and stuff, it's great. most patrollers are cool like that. however, i could definitely believe that you got yelled at by a patroller because some of them are extreme assholes

Yeah, well, im must be the exception to your expiriances. I was being a smartass because he was an asshole. In most of my expiriances, patrolers are nice, and have saved me once, but this was an exception. He was an asshole, and very unprofessional when he confronted us about skiing switch. He could have calmly asked us to stop, and then given us valid reasons, but no, he yelled, and even swore at us, which no one should do if they want to keep their customers. Think about it.

Some people become patrollers because they want to be paid to ski or to earn a ski pass by skiing. Many of them get corrupted by the petty power granted them.

Other people become patrollers so they can be pigs on skis.

OTOH many join to help people and get paid shit to nothing for doing it.

I've been listening to patrollers at Breckenridge spend the last 2 hours searching for a missing kid. And oh shit... there goes the SAR pager for that... bye!

dude ski patrollers r such ass holes at my mtn (loonmtn) they yell at me cuz i can ski switch good and was in no way a danger to any1 but he doesnt yell at the stupid ppl who cant ski that try and act cool and hit moguls like their jumps and wipe out and hit ppl but nooooo they yell at ppl who can ski like they did to mark abma at whistler last year.....fuck them they should no wat there talkin about b4 they give u shit

yea ski patrolers suck...a couple of friend and myself were goin to this one run that was untracked and it was closed off. we saw some snowboarders head towards it and we followed. we got right by it and a ski patroler came up and told me to stay there while he clipped the snowboarders tickets. all of us ski down and he was chasing us.. good thing we could ski alot faster than that bitch

All patrollers are dicks man! No exceptions. None of them ski because they really want to. They just want to piss other people off. That is all they want in life. I met this one patroller who yelled at me just because i was testing out my ollie skills by hopping over little kids on the bunny hill and I accidentally landed on one. OOPSY. I even sayed 'sorry bro' but this dick head still had the nerve to scold me. Fuckin Chuck Norris

iwas out hte otehr day at my mountain and they gave me a not so sticky pass so i just stuck it to it self and put it in my pocket and no one cared...well then near the day after i had been up the lift like 15 times some stupid dyke asks me to show her my pass and i say fine and pull it out of my pocket and she says no you have to hang it on your jacket you could give it to one of your friends go get a hang and put it on your jacket i was like uhh how the fuck am i sposed to do that its already stuck and she was like jsut do it and i was like NO and hoppe don the lift

lol all this patrol shit reminds me of my halloween i was with like 7 friends when these 2 bike cops rode up to us, said 'HALT' then asked us if we had any firecrackers. i just kept walking. he turned around and rode beside me and said, 'ok son, do you have any firecrackers in possesion' i was just like no bud i dont and they rode off
