I hate ski patrolers

So today, me and some friends headed up to big sky, which is about an hour from where we live, and is a huge resort, with a shitload of tourists at it and stuff. So we were just coming down from the tram, and had to come down this groomer, and me and my friend did 180's over this mini roller and skied the run switch. Well this ski patrol comes down, looking really fucking pissed, and skis right up to us and starts chewing us out. It went a little like this: 'you boys, you understand that by doing that you were endangering everyone on this hill? this run is not for skiing backwards, as you can see, there are people snowplowing down this. Skiing backwards in a blue is just bullshit son (looking to me), and frankly, your lucky that I don't cut your pass right now.' and went on like that for about 10 min. And then as we were heading down, we were being smartasses, and just carving back and forth, and he was right behind us, and he goes 'You think i'm kidding? Ill do it.' Man, what a fucking ass whole. The slope wasn't even crowded/

yeah, it really depends on the area. like most of the mammoth patrollers really could give less of a fuck. me and some friends were setting a box up on the side of one of the runs last month and about 8 or 9 patrollers rolled by - one said 'don't hurt yourselves' and that was it.

sucks that so many areas have patrollers whose heads are stuck firmly up their asses.

Yeah, like at bridger, they are pretty chill, but big sky is like a fucking resort, so they are all ass holes. Like the guy said in the other thred, they make their money from the gay ass tourists

ski patrollers at my mountain have been surprisingly relaxed this year. I've buolt two decently large jumps and all theyve said is 'dont make it too much bigger'

we spent an hour putting up a box to gap to box thing up at my local mountain and it took us 2 hours to get it perfect.. meanwhile i see ski patrollers camping out in the woods staring at us with binoculars this whole time.. we hit it once and went in to grab lunch real quickly. we come back out and its on the side of the trail and they stomped on our lip like 3 year old children

so i went to the liftie who did it and starting crying telling him i had testicular cancer and clymidia (sp?) and that im only supposed to live for 3 more weeks.... so they let us put it back up

i hate my resort, they took out the old caff, to put in a new one at the bottom so 'people would feel like they are in a more world class resort'. anyway, the prices are fuckin insane. 3.50 for a bottle of pop.10 dollars for a half a sandwich.

Yeah, at my mountain most patrollers are ok, but you do come across the occasional ass-head. Like one time there was this huge crater at the end of a rail, so we block off the rail and start to fill it in and smooth it out. Everything is kosher. Then this patroller comes up and starts yelling at us, cuz we 'aren't supposed to be building jumps' or some crap like that.

Let me guess, it was a saturday?

Just like there are idiots some of us refer to as weekend warriors, so to are there weekend warrior patrollers. They are typically the ones who volunteer to be assholes and generally dont get much respect from the full timers.

The funny thing is, we work out of patrol and have to ski with sunday river jackets on and we always tear down runs switch, jacketed.

are patrollers are cool too, were not allowed to build in bounds so they catch us by the boundry because they have to partoll it because the lady is a bitch and tells them to follow us, so they come and tell us ' is that a jump ya got there, or is that natural? we say its natural and were making it safer, then they say im glad you boys are watching out for the safty of other skiiers' its so funny, and they know its not natural.

the patrollers at my mtn are pretty cool, we had a rail someone put in out of bounds last year, and it was there all year, aside from getting run over by the cat. they do destroy stuff that gets built on main runs though. its like any authority: we are gonna dislike the people that are ruining our fun. if we respect them for just doing their job, and they let us build stuff within reason, then a nice happy balance is reached. and when you hurt yourself in the park and have to be hauled off the mtn, i dont know if you will be hating the ski patrol then

yeah that patroler was a dick, i was with him, and i just spaced out and listined to my music and he followed us all the way down to the lift so we had to like ski slow and couldnt do any trick it was gay, but yeah Big Sky has so many tourists its nuts it pisses me off

Ours are pretty sick too. I've skied down crowded areas switch a lot of times and they usually don't do anything.

If people are skiing switch, they are obviously experienced enough skiers to be in control and to know what they are doing. I guess they trust us or something.

Gulf don't you ski at bridger? They pulled my pass last year for doing a back flip of the North bowl road then put me on the wall of shame the year before for trying a rodeo at the aerials site. But yeah its their job, yeah the big sky people yelled at me for riding switch too, I rode like most of the way out of the park to the bottom stich and I told him that I paid as much as everyone else and that I would ride how I liked and that I wasn't close to hitting anyone and that the only thing that was hazardous were the 90 year old people snow plowng and carving down the groomers that stuff the whole plac3e up, he just said whatever and skiied off.

Yeah, and at big sky lasy year, my friend took 2 hours to build a jump, and then right as they were about to hit it, a patroler comes up and makes them tear it all down. Fuck ski patrol.

when i was at bachelor christmas eve i was just skiing down a big beginners run all the way to the left side off the trail. Im not going fast or skiing switch. its to flat to go fast. i pass a big orange sign that says slow and there is a ski patroller behind it and he points at me and i point back at him and ski to the bottom. when i get to the bottom i stop and he grabs my arm and spins me around ( i just took off my skis) and starts yelling at me that when a ski patroller points it means to stop. then told me i was going to fast and i said thats why i was in complete control off the groomed. he gets more angry and says its a beginners run and its ment to be slow. i say okay and just walk away. its easy just say okay to them sometimes and they dont know what else to say.

i think if ur good enough to ski backwards or through the woods then its alright.And ski patrol is like we are just tryin to keep the slopes safe...so y in the fuck if ur good enough to where u wont hit anybody then y does it matter. Its better to ski in control unlike the little fuckers flying down the slopw out of control

Yeah it's easy to be pissed at patrollers when they are just doing their job, but I know how angry they can get for what seems like no reason. I like skiing fast too and have been warned many times, but now I always think twice about what I'm doing. Skiing in a slow area I came upon a kid who basically did not have a head after hooking an edge and hitting a rock. He layed there and died right in front of our eyes. And even though he was a super good skier something happened, he screwed up and now is dead. So when you see me point at you and say slow down, don't think it's just me being a dick or the corporation covering their ass or that I even want to be doing that, but sometimes it just has to be someones job. And it's not even my job I build and run parks not ski patrollers. Try to see the big picture.

This guy at our hill named 'Chuck' actually takes away your skis or boards if you do something wrong, but if he ever tries to take mine i'ma drop the fucker. he yelled at me for riding switch once, and i just pointed over to like 3 sets of dads and kids that were riding backwards so they could see their kids skiing. he couldnt think of anything else to say so i smiled, pushed off, and kept skiing switch, of course, i waved before i got too far off

i dont understand how they can say a run is for not skiing backwards, i mean if you're learning to ski switch, shouldnt you do it on beginner runs?

I got my ticket clipped for skiing in the woods. It wasn't even steep.
I don't deny there are bad things in the US right now, hell, 51% of the country to be exact. But god damnit, our country being fat is NOT a problem. I do't give a shit how fat people are. hell, fat kids are harder to kidnap, that means our country is safer.

YEah some places just freak out about skiing switch. They act like your going to kill people doing it. It's so lame. When most peole ski switch they are in more control than half the people on the hill. You aren't hurting anyone so why don't people just leave you alone.

yea ski patrolers at my mountain dont give 2 shits about anything this year...so far weve accomplished building kickers and for skiing switch the patrolers just look at shake their head like its a bad thing...so this years been pretty good considering all the rain and warm temps

i came around a turn skiing switch and almost hit a ski patrol. The only reason i almost did was because he wasnt moving and was just sitting there on the other side of a turn. Well he was really mad but thats a different story i guess.

Most of the ski patrollers at my mountain are chill. They let me build jumps and ski as fast as I want, because they know that I can ski better than them. Also, the one guy who was a dick (also conveniently the only snowboarder on patrol at my mountain) got fired the other day for being on a power trip. How you like them apples?
Life is simple: Eat, sleep, ski.

Apparently throwing snowballs at moving vehicles is a felony and can land you in prison for a year. Who knew?
