How do you get your ski movies?

I'd be curious to see how the answer to this question changes over the years.

iTunes? DVDs? Torrents?

Unfortunately primarily Itunes due to ease or buy the DVD if it's guaranteed to be awesome (mostly Level 1 flicks). It sucks though since I have a feeling the majority get them through Itunes which basically means the producers get pretty much no money out of it. The profit margins are not favorable whatsoever.

Yeah, I feel the same. It's just so much easier to use iTunes to get them. I used to only get the DVDs, but waiting on shipping can be annoying when there's instant gratification out there, especially when I pre-order a DVD and before the DVD ships people are watching it on iTunes. If it's a company I really want to support, I'll order the DVD (and sometimes also get it off iTunes if I can't wait).

I would much rather get a movie on iTunes than on dvd. Its so nice having all your movies ready to go on your laptop and being able to watch it on the apple tv without having to look for the dvd. I think I have gotten all my dvds through christmas and even tho some of my favorite movies are on dvd I rarely ever see theme compared to the ones I have on iTunes.
And iTunes gift cards have become a pretty standard christmas/birthday gift the last couple of years instead of dvds. Sucks that the producers don't get as much from iTunes purchase tho.

i used to get a ton of DVDS but that's too expensive, you can get HD movies for cheaper and have them on your laptop instantly

i like to buy the dvd when it's a super good, classic movie, but that's almost never the case

iTunes has always been pretty good about having the movie fairly quickly after it drops. It's nice having an Apple TV aswell so I don't have to watch from my computer.

I as well have been buying through iTunes lately for all the reasons mentioned... its on all my devices, have apple TV, etc.

The one thing about this that drives me bananas though is that I really technically don't own it. I'm simply licencing it from Apple... If I wanted to switch to an android phone, chromecast and a chromebook I'd lose my entire library instantly.

That means (if you ask me) I don't own this shit, I just paid a ridiculously high rental cost.

i always bought on itunes just cuz it was easier (and sometimes cheaper) but i think im gunna start buying dvds cuz then i can watch em anywhere and download it onto my computer and put it on my phone

I normally use itunes although i dont enjoy getting the movies off there (still think itunes is the biggest piece of shit software there is). What if there was a way to buy them off NS? That would be awesome.

i think thats only 50% true.
i know there are programs out there that will let you access your itunes library and save individual files to wherever and however you want. tedious? yes. but atleast you dont instantly lose your entire library.

you do own this shit, its just extremely difficult to watch it on a non-apple device.

You can port iTunes stuff to almost any device now, there not as picky as they were since Amazon and Google Play came on the scene they know they have to try and cater to everyone, not just people with apple devices.

I've always bought a couple of ski movies a year for the past 5 years or so. Now I buy them on Itunes, since it's much more affordable, but I don't buy that much more than I would with DVDs. I prefer by far having a hard copy of a good film, to me, there's something "special about it".

Mainly off of iTunes as shipping to the UK is a bitch (as much as I want to support the various companies), almost double the cost of the DVD itself...

I hate iTunes as I only have my PC to watch them off, no other Apple devices are owned by myself...

wherever they are available first. I used to preorder but stopped when some of them started showing up on iTunes first. ill go to the premieres too if them come close to where I live.

The reason a physical disk is $10ish more is literally production costs. It may not cost $10 to produce per say, but you will always pay more for the actual thing. Its not necessarily 'costing' a company anything to sell it digitally, so any money they make is kind of a bonus.

Look at magazines, you can get a digi download subscription for $9.99 when a physical subscription is $20-40 + ship.


I primarily buy my movies on iTunes, but I would be lying if I said I'd never torrented a ski or skateboard movie.

I buy DVD's from the local shop whenever they have big sales and then I grab like 10 at a time

The only time I've got a ski movie on a DVD was Prime Cut, but other than that I've downloaded movies on iTunes. However, I might consider getting the new Level 1 movie on DVD mainly because it costs $100 USD to get the movie on VHS along with it being on DVD and Blu-Ray.

I buy them on itunes simply because I travel a lot and having all my movies on my computer is just so much better. I would very much prefer there to be a digital download that didn't involve itunes because then I can have the movie on my computer and support the company

Honestly getting locked into Itunes kinda scares me, so I try to keep away from it, but some movies I can only find through that (Few Words. Also it seems like The Recruitment is only gonna be Itunes?)

Anyways I try to buy DVD's mostly just because you have them forever. Paying for shipping and everything sucks though.

I tunes is just easiest. I have it at home , i have it on my tablet on the couch and i have in my pocket when i am waiting for a ride doing nothing. Dvds are great and it's fun to have a psychical product but it's not nearly as convenient.

I usually end up doing none of the above until the whole movie gets released on NS or something for free years down the road. I hate itunes as I am an android user and buying DVDs from your local ski shop is always retardedly expensive. I would buy the DVDs from the companies websites but they always make shipping prohibitively expensive as well. The last movies I bought were Sunny and Partly Cloudy and I only did that because they were having a free shipping sale or something.

DVD's (just counted; 58 ski DVD's and counting which is not including snowboard DVD's. I have also not purchased any of this year's films yet.)

I love having a physical copy of the movie. I'm able to enjoy the stills on the front and rear cover, any synopsis regarding cast of riders or location and select a film based on how I'm feeling. Browsing digitally via iTunes just isn't the same.

Just the same as not being able to enjoy an artist's vision with their album art and liner notes when you get a burned CD or MP3 download from your friend. I just enjoy having a physical selection in front of me and not my computer.

I do have a few downloaded through iTunes that weren't available on a physical format, but I will always opt for a DVD/Bluray if at all possible.
