Alright, im in the market for a new knife. Preferably either a switchblade or a butterfly knife. Which do you think i should get. I will be using the knife for protection/collection purposes. Any recommendations?
and as for protection, a knife is usually a dumb idea...
its pretty lethal but not easy to use effectively -> you're very likely to cut yourself in a fight, get disarmed and stabbed by your own knife or someone pulls a gun on you ...
if you feel unsafe there are better alternatives to protect yourself and those around you

I have been properly trained in how to use a knife in such situations.
Butterfly because it will be pretty fun to play with. I had one for a few years and it was a good way to pass time when sitting around waiting for something. Like when youre sitting at your desk watching a video

Just came here to say that Opinels are the best knives out. Especially if you're actually using your knife for practical purposes, rather than being a clown-ass purporting to need a knife for "protection/collection purposes." What a fuckin' joke.
Opinels or Byrds. Byrds are made by Spyderco except they're $30 instead of $$$$$$$$$. I have an Opinel for my fishing kit (super sharp blades) and a Byrd for my pocket work/box/random shit beater knife.
Get a butterfly knife or a switchblade if you want a toy to try and look cool with.
Otherwise, get a real knife. I carry either a SOGZilla, Flash II, of CRKT M16-14T daily. Great utility knives for whatever, and they're cheap enough that if I lose/break them, I won't be too upset.

proZachactually bought that bad boy on your recommendation. was so happy with it, I picked up one of their clam shuckin knives. also awesome.
What I appreciate best in Opinel's is their honesty, it's just five parts, nothing fancy going on, great beechwood handle, that crazy sharp Carbon blade, everything works perfectly and has done so almost unchanged for the last 120 years.

Or other pattern-welded steel knives. They look amazing.
those materials don't do anything except look good. Carbon steel knives are great because they stay sharper longer, however they rust and stain easily if you don't always wipe them off.
If you want something legal that opens fast check out the Kershaw speedsafe designs. Great build quality. I like having products that are made locally and it's nice to be able to stop in at the factory to get my knives sharpened for free whenever. If there is a good knife factory near your town you should check it out to see if you can get something local.
If I were to trust folding kinves ( and I don't ) I would get anything Benchmade. The only company that's worth talking about in reference to those kinves.
Personally I have an Ontario TAK 1 that I use at work on a day to day basis. Such a handy knife to have. It's like a crowbar with an edge. I also have a Mora knife that I use from time to time....hard to keep sharp though.
A good first bush knife that's cheep is a Becker BK2. Your never gonna break it, and it's probably the best kinfe KA-BAR makes.

I had a Kershaw. It was pretty sweet until a co-worker stole it. Pretty sure they are made in China....
Be careful, one of my friends broke his screen doing exactly that with my no. 12, he underestimated the magnetic pull. (And had a bit of a bad angle going on.)

Benchmade Makes some awesome products when it comes to fully auto knives however if you can get your hand on one try and get one of the spyderco butterfly knives they are hands down the best.

Agree with Benchmade. Whatever you do, don't get anything less than 154CM. It may seem expensive up front, but will pay off in the long run. None of the Cr813MoV bullshit. Also, nothing serrated.
As far as specific, I use a full size Benchmade Barrage or could recommend an Adamas with D2 tool steel. That knife will outlive you.
Or hop right up to the Gucci plateau and get a Chris Reeve. Preferably an Umnumzaan.

Classic no. 8 with carbon blade is the most popular for obvious reasons. Good size, not too big or large. That is the no. 12 and it's a bit big.
I do want a no.13 though, since it does away with number=cm's of blade and is just plain ridiculous.
