Bigger resort- better skiing?

i hate big resorts because theres way too many trails and i like to ski most of the trails on the mtn and then hit park for the rest of the day. When resorts are big theres lots of different lifts and too many options.

big hills are so much better. I ski whistler so pretty much the biggest in North America but I always love skiing europe because it's so much bigger. You can ski from village to village, skis loads of differnt parks and find fresh powder all day a there is so much terrain. Small resorts can be fun but the bigger euro ski areas are simply the best.

Europe is fantastic for this reason.

You can have bad snow on one mountain, ski to another, and have incredible conditions. You can ski from country to country if you are in certain areas.

the bigger, the better

It can be a bit overwhelming at first but then you realize how much fun it is to actually explore places like that.

It's fun to explore bigger resorts but being big doesn't make it better necessarily. There's other factors that make a resort good or bad.

I think acreage is less important than having different aspects and angles. You can be modest in raw size and actually have more varied terrain, wind load patterns, sun exposure, that makes a knowledge of a smaller place invaluable. If I had to choose between two resorts one that was 30% bigger but had similar terrain, slope, aspect, loading, etc., and one that was smaller but rewarded an intimate knowledge of both the resort and snowpack, I'd go smaller.

However, if you can ski somewhere that's huge, and also is incredibly diverse, you're winning.

To whoever made that absurd argument about a place being too big and having too many options...well, whatever helps you sleep at night, bud. I'd be in denial if I had to ski the same terrain all day everyday.

Id say it matters more on the ratio of people to area to ski. Small hill packed with epic terrain and no crowds kills any big crowded resort with brutal lines.
