I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

No.QuarterIn my constant indecisiveness for new rubber, the Dissector has definitely caught my eye. Doesn't seem like there are too many reviews out there yet, but it seems like it would be a great choice for places where dry fast trails with some loose stuff is the norm, but a semi slick doesn't quite cut it.


Definitely what most of Breck is, dry and loose over hard haha The aggressor is so good for those conditions already so the dissector has a lot to live up to!

Not everything has to be super steep dirt jump sets, town bike parks are getting really good, and more folks are moving toward playing around in the air. I'm trying to find a frame to make into a bike like that. Just need like an old Medium bronson or Roubion frame, and then I've got all the other parts I'd need waiting in the garage.

Eh, IDK, I don't think anyone is anywhere close to "recreating" the bottle rocket, it was a more unique beast than folks give it credit for. I do think their marketing copy is aimed at a reborn version of that origional spirit though, even though the bike doesn't seem to really live up to that hype. If anything it seems like they're trying to evoke Blur 4X vibes.


I mean, both are similar travel 27.5 bikes, but I don't think the timing of the release has anything to do with the Mojo, there's a whole bunch of other factors going into that. Like COVID. And development cycles. Lower link 5010 has been in the works for a long time. And the 5010 has been marketed as a jib bike for a long time.

I really do think that a segment of the industry is pivoting to marketing all mid-travel 27.5" bikes as "fun, playful, poppy, jibby" whatever, because that's the best way they've found to differentiate them from "faster" "racier" 29ers. Which is hilarious because most people I talk to who bought a 27.5 bike for the "playfulness" don't ever ride in a fashion that would lend itself to those smaller wheels.

No not yet actually.... just before planning to go to Leogang, I was riding Nordkette, and I fkn exploded and got a pretty gnar concussion. Hopefully in a few weeks to a month I’ll be good to go there. They do have new trails since you’ve ridden, I can fill you in on the ones I ride if you want :)

And I rode Innsbruck too. Didn't get a chance to ride Nordkette though. I didn't want to pay for lift access to one DH trail while riding solo at the time. Alzen Almer (I think that was the name?) Was super fun though.

Anybody else have an EVOC pad on their tacoma? My truck is gen 1 with bed depth of 18" and I bought the M/L size pad. However, the pad measures 2" too tall and the padding doesn't actually sit correctly on the railing and the straps don't fit around the downtube of my bike (see pics). I'm wondering if it's just because my older gen tacoma has a shorter tailgate. Anybody, else have this issue?

Anyone have this happen? Sidewall blew out, bead still on rim. No impact, gave out mid berm. Thinking a small tare finally gave out? Rim's fine.

What you could try is cut a pool noodle to fit around the top of the gate. This will add some height and further protect your frame(s).

dissector tire is so good. I can't tell a rolling speed difference from the aggressor, but then you have those meatier side knobs to really lock ya in. Pretty stoked that it clears mud better too, the aggressor was never good at shedding mud, which makes sense with it being more for dry conditions but so is the dissector.

100% on board with it!

Since Shimano doesn't make a microspline adapter for their own hubs, I'm looking at new rear wheel. I've found some great deals and have narrowed it down t:

1. Crankbros Synthesis Alloy with Industry Nine 1/1 hubs (90 POE 4 degree engagement)

2. Race Race Next R Carbon with Raceface hubs (120 POE, 3 degree engagement

Is the Raceface worth the extra $110 difference?
Do/have any of your ridden with a carbon rear and aluminum front?

Pretty great to air down to like 15 psi on the climb and have endless traction and comfort, but if the trail is at all bermy or I know I'm going to do any hard cornering I end up having to air up to a pressure suitable for hard cornering, so not as much improvement in sidewall support as I was anticipating. This is with Maxxis EXO casing tires. The main benefit for me has just been peace of mind when smashing recklessly into rock gardens and sharp edged features. The run flat capability is not too bad either, the one time I've lost a serious amount of air with it was when I was riding down a loose rocky gravel doubletrack back to the trailhead and it was honestly pretty fun to slide around and pretend I was carving on skis. The main trade-off is not being able to put a tube if you flat trailside, but for me the risk of flatting a tubeless tire without cushcore was pretty low already and with the inserts that risk is even lower.
I'm a big fan of cushcore

tbh dont even bother with the tailgate on the gen 1 taco. I just end up putting my bike in the bed because of how low the tire hangs off of the back.

Yep. My axle bounces off the bumper all day. I usually just lay it down in the bed but would like to have it setup for shuttle days. Probably going to end jerry rigging something.

If you have the money I would recommend the recon rack. dont have it on my taco at the moment but its the best bike rack imaginable for a shuttle day.

Yeah very true. I never had an issue with how low the tire hung toward the ground but I was only able to put the bikes in the middle of the bed as any other spot the fork would hit then bumper and not sit up straight

I took it to the pump track last night a lil bit drunk and I was impressed with it. You can still put a tube in, you just gotta sling the Cush core around your neck. I put on DH casing tires as well with it and I’m pretty sure I can ride over nails without flatting.

Sure. Whatever, I'll make up an opinion: I'd be hard-pressed to buy something that said "crankbrothers" on it. Because reliability. That's a huge stupid generalization, but I'll make it.

At this point, I'm 100% sold on carbon wheels, just because all the good ones come with lifetime warranties. I am hard enough on wheels that it's some awesome peace of mind to just not care, because I know the wheel will be replaced ASAP if I blow it up.

Lol, I think I'd rather run flat on cushcore than wrestle out a slimy insert trailside and sling it around my neck. The only other problem I've had was overtightening the valve stem and crushing the gasket, but I just emailed them and they sent me a new pair of valves for free.

I went on a big ol solo mission yesterday at the Copper City trails because I couldn't convince any of my friends to join my stupid route. Rode out to Destroying Angel for the first time and it was fucking awesome, really great variety on that trail, then rode Boss Tweed which has some fun jumps. Then was planning on riding back up the doubletrack to avoid doing the hefty Trident climb, but decided to just send it. I was doing so well and was convinced that I was going to clean the whole thing, until I put a sunbathing rattlesnake under my front tire, freaked out and jumped backward nearly falling down the side of the steep slope. Had to shimmy around the trail with like two feet of room to the left between a wall and a sheer drop on the right to get around the lil fella. It was a really steep and loose approach to a sketchy tight switchback and I was convinced that I was going to clean it. But after my encounter with nature I was way off my mojo and then couldn't stop dabbing, ran out of gas and nearly fell over down the slope, thought I was gonna puke, then finally made it to the ridgeline for a warm beer break. Then went up to drop into the downhill trail Neversweat, then re-rode the jump section and cleared more of them than I was expecting. Then made it back to the car and took a nap in the fucking dirt for a minute. Great day, very sunburnt.

Thanks guys. I think it's actually between that Crankbros alloy wheel, and the Rafeface Turbine R alloy wheel for a bit cheaper with the same 3 degree engagement hub as the carbon, but for $50 less than the Crankbros. I can't fork out the extra money for the carbon wheel, since I'm also getting a new drivetrain, brakes, and just ordered new half and fullface helmets. Kind of leaning towards the Turbine R wheel.

Thoughts?

I had the Turbine R wheels with their Vault Straight Pull hubs on my last bike. Loved them. Solid wheel, and had no issues with the hubs. I did throw a bunch of thicker grease to quiet them down a bit because i dont like a super loud hub

Yeah, was really playing devil's advocate and trying to come up with any reason to choose one over the other haha. Seems like their new wheels are nice.

Stan's hooked it up heavy by sending me a flow wheel laced to a hope pro4 hub after I shattered 2 of their branded neos. Only problem is they sent a 29 instead of a 27.5 😂

I'm stoked they went the extra mile to get me a good product but can't help to laugh about it. Just glad it isn't keeping me from riding this summer

This kid who had just bought his first new mountain bike came into the Bike Kitchen last night after taking off his dork disc with the problem of the freehub not coasting. Thought there were just bits of dork disc left behind, but we took his wheel off the cassette and free hub falls off the axle. Found out that a pawl had come out of it's seat, and got jammed between the freehub assembly and the hub, embedding the hardened steel pawl into the aluminum freehub body and effectively making it a fixed gear. This was also just a couple of days after I decided to put the only 12x148 wheel that was broken, but less broken than his, into the recycle. Really hoping he can get it covered by warranty as he literally hasn't even ridden it yet, hopefully Trek isn't shitty and claims it's not covered because it happened due to taking off the dork disc.

GANDALFI had the Turbine R wheels with their Vault Straight Pull hubs on my last bike. Loved them. Solid wheel, and had no issues with the hubs. I did throw a bunch of thicker grease to quiet them down a bit because i dont like a super loud hub


Ah, first hand experience is the best! I also don't like super loud hubs. Did the thicker grease affect the resistance or performance at all?

I found this old step down and rebuilt it like 3 years ago but I was always too scared to hit hit. Finally did it yesterday.

Do you think once I put the Chesters on this I’ll be able to hit the bike park confidently? Just bought it for $2000 on pinkbike the guy said it was a good deal because of the full suspension.

People already said the chester, which is fine although I never really enjoyed the feel of it personally. It doesn't cradle your foot very well as the pin placement is a bit too congested. If you can up your budget just to $99, the ANVL tilt has gotta be the best bang for your buck aluminum pedal.
