I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

WoFlowzAnyone have a YT IZZO? My friends looking for a trail bike and their in stock, he doesn’t think it’s enough travel but he can get it rn and all the trails he rides are XC and machine built flow trails


I have an Izzo but I'm shit at biking so idk if my opinion is worth anything. But if he's riding XC and machine built, then it's plenty of travel. 130/130 is pretty capable and YT has quality components for the money. They sell some specs with 140 forks if he's really concerned about it. IMO, if he thinks he's underbiked then he should get better

Travel doesn’t matter as much as frame geometry. Unless it’s like an 80mm fork or something.

The Jeffsy appears to be in stock online if he's really worried about it. But I think you're on the right track. Makes no sense to daily drive pow skis on the off-chance you'll need them 2 days of the season. Same goes with bikes

Also, what do y'all do for bringing tools/tubes/food with ya on rides? I've always used a little bag under my seat, but it doesn't work great with the dropper on my new bike, and I don't like riding with a pack.

Dakine makes a little bag you strap to ur frame that can hold a tube Co2 and multi tool and there’s also mounts you can get for a pump if you don’t like the Co2 idea

A cheap velcro strap holds my tube, c02/adapter and multitool to the top tube

95% of the time I fit everything I need in my pockets. Get shorts/pants with big zip up pockets. I carry my water on a bottle mount, and a multitool, hand pump, tubeless tire plugs, and snacks in my pockets. If I'm doing a super long ride that I feel I need a tube and more food/water I use a pack, but that only happens maybe once or twice a year.

I basically never ride with a tube because I'm confident that any flat I get will at least partially seal 95% of the time, and even if I shred my sidewall my rear wheel has cushcore to roll back on. If you don't have a good tubeless setup and want to carry a full flat kit you'll probably need some kind of frame bag

Do you ever crash? My hips and thighs hurt just thinking about all that hard, pointy shit in my pockets on a ride. I feel bad enough riding with my phone in my pocket.

I never crash, I'm the best biker on the mountain

Nah, but all the stuff in my pockets sits closer to the front of my thighs so I never really land on it. I most commonly land on my knees and roll onto my back before I fully hit

Yeah, I've thought about getting a fanny, but I hate having extra stuff hanging off of me while I ride. I snagged a top tube bag from work, so that should fit everything I need for local rides. Appreciate the ideas yall

I don’t pack shit ever. I drink like half a gallon prior and charge it for at most 2 hours. If I get a flat I just take the walk off Shane back to the car. Happens like once a year but I typically am just lapping flow trails anyway so it’s not like I’m far.

I much rather carry nothing at all than stuff my fucking pockets though lol. That shit sounds ridiculous. If I were to carry stuff I would for sure use a smaller runners pack to spread weight on my back vs the fanny pack. Again, the pockets thing is a terrible idea. One jump and half your shit is everywhere

I use fox shorts and have never had a problem with stuff falling out. I dont ride much flow trails but it holds up to bashing and hucking rocks. I leave a multitool in my pocket for bike park too.

the only problem with pockets is having a phone in there and crashing on it. I have shattered a screen or two

I totally get this mentality, but seriously, try one. It took me about five minutes to stop noticing it, and it makes me a lot more flexible for big rides, and I don't notice it at all shuttling or riding lifts. For like, half-hour after work rides, a top tube bag and no pack is sick, but for anything else, you just gain a lot of flexibility and self-sufficiency by having even a small one (I'm partial to the Dakine Hot Laps 5L, but anything about that size will work.) Even with a SWAT box in my enduro I still wear the fanny because it costs me nothing and lets me be a lot more prepared.

I also bent my phone from a bike crash, got my front wheel caught up in a hidden log and went OTB landing on my thigh with my phone in my pocket onto another log. Got it warrantied tho by claiming that I didn't know how it happened and the screen didn't even break even though it was so bent that the screen was glitching out.

Currently running a Dakine hydration hip pack that always a tiny emergency jacket (Pearl Izumi Summit Shell), an ultralight emergency kit, tools, bearspray, snacks, and I'll leave out the reservoir for most rides unless it's more than 10 miles or so. Super nice to be able to strap my kneepads to the outside for the climbs as well.

I think vitalmtb used it first. They built up a capra with a dual crown and called it downduro. It really stuck with me cuz thats exactly what i do

I just want to say that schrader valves are better than presta. Presta is totally unnecessary now that rims are wide enough to fit wider valves, and the cores just get bent all the time. You can also use more pumps when you have schrader on your bike

It doesn't matter because its all fucking stupid. Its called all mountain. Wow. Crazy, right? Its almost like that term already existed for bikes that climb and descend well! These made up terms are the dumbest shit ever.

Never even heard of him, idk. Leogang this weekend is a good chance for some lesser known riders to make themselves known just because of the unpredictable nature of a muddy track. A lot of the top guys got taken out last year and the conditions this year are looking pretty similar

He rides Squamish all winter long and it’s just starting to dry out there from the looks of it. I’m thinking he has a decent chance

I’ve got a Camelback Chase backpack that truly doesn’t feel like a backpack. It sits high on your back and doesn’t move at all, plus it’s like a vest and has pockets front and back. Remy Metailler uses it. For most rides I carry a water bottle on my bike, a couple of snacks, tire levers, multi-tool, Co2, and a stans dart plug. This all depends on the length of my ride, but that’s what I carry on average. I don’t carry a tube because I have Cushcore and a DH casing rear tire as well as exo+ in the front (Maxxis tires). I don’t quite know what I would do with my cushcore if I had to put a tube in. But this truly is up to you, I would say bring one. I really enjoy my Pack but as others have said Hip packs work well too.

Lost my phone this week on an after work ride... walked up the entire downhill looking for it and raced dusk back to the car. I've been enjoying no phone life tho. Lesson? Wear a fanny pack
