I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

Fanatik has/had a bunch in stock, and you can even order online. Seems like a cool budget rig.

Shops need to be a Status dealer in order to even order them, there’s a few selling them online right now so that’s your best bet. I’ve been on the 140 and it’s pretty cool especially for the cost. The geo takes a bit of getting used to but having the 275 out back is really fun. I’d even recommend the 140 over the 160 to most people since the geo is so aggressive it makes up for the travel and the bike is pretty heavy so less travel would help that on climbs! statusmtb.bike is the official site where you can get more info

WoFlowzOh from what I had known trek doesn’t do a life time on Carbon same with Kona, or Cannondale I’ll look into that stuff tonight cause I can’t sleep


Pretty much all biggish bike brands these days have carbon frame warranties. All three of those brands do to my knowledge.

B-b-b-but my dad's riding buddy snapped his Carbon Trek Y frame in 1995 and fell off the side of the mountain and died, so now I don't trust carbon.


For real though, carbon is stronger than alloy only to an extent. An impact to a tube in a manner which the frame was not designed to be strong in is much more likely to cause a failure. A dent in an aluminum frame you may be fine to ride for a long time, but if a carbon tube takes a big sharp impact it could be the end. My friend just moved and had his truck completely full of his belongings and couldn't fit his bike over the tailgate as he usually does so he got a cheap top-tube mount style hitch rack. A strap failed and the metal arm impacted his down-tube and put a big ol crack in it.

Once carbon is compromised in anyway it becomes significantly weaker.

I've had alloy frames with dents all over that I've ridden for years with no issue.

Most of the bike warranties I've seen advertise free frame repair for the original owner. That's a key detail. Bike brands are pretty smart. I'd wager most people buying new carbon bikes are cycling through bikes every 3 years or so anyway, and bike brands know this. Some companies offer lifetime warranties because they know there's a slim chance they'll have to honor them 3+ years down the line. I'd interpret warranty length as more of a marketing gimmick than a quality indicator. Buy a bike with a warranty if you can afford it, but it's certainly not an indicator for frame strength.

Anyone else ever have a crown race fall off their fork when taking it off their bike to do some maintenance? Never had this happen before and all of a sudden it fell off when I pulled it out

Not entirely uncommon, many crown races are press fit, while some have a split in them so that they don't have to be pressed on or require a puller to remove.

anyone else think its sorta dumb to be riding a dh bike on flow trails like everyone seems to?? like yeah if your going really big, but for most people it is way way overkill. i find a short travel bike is way more playful and fun on flow stuff

Anyone else think its sorta dumb when a gaper criticizes what other gapers are riding? like yeah, you're also riding lift serviced trails because you're a lazy piece of shit and brag about how little suspension you ride smooth flow trails with but like yeah. so overkill!

Some fuckin dude got an old ass Y33 from his buddy, and brought it into my shop asking if it was still safe to ride, and if he could get a warranty frame for the fucking thing. Yeah, 20+ year old carbon is gtg my dude.

Oh yeah, my first enduro was this weekend and it was sick as hell, I got 39th overall out of like 60 or so people in the expert category

I mean I coulda raced sport cat and probably won but it was one 2 stager instead of 3 and I thought it would be a better challenge

Just got a new slx 2pod for my hard tail and it came with fin pads. Shits so fancy makes me want the 4 pods for my trail bike

I’m getting a job mid July after my vacation and I’m either going huge rotors on my current 2 pots or upgrading to some shimano 4 pots

Bozeman Homies, is Leveritch still the go-to lap? Haven't ridden up there in a few years, and will be swinging through Sunday on my way home with a few hours for a ride. Assuming Emerald Lake/most of the rest of the higher stuff is still under snow?

Leverich has been getting a lot of work done to it, and this Saturday is going to get a bunch of work too for national trails day. However, because its still "early season" other trails are still drying out and it has been ridiculously crowded at the trailhead, like nearly worth it to park at Nash park and ride up the dirt road to the trailhead. The crowds also mean that any work that gets done to tune up berms and braking bumps gets destroyed pretty fast since we haven't got much rain.
West side of the Bridgers is probably good to go by now, I was hiking at Corbly Gulch this past weekend and it was lookin pretty good, so that could be an option but not sure if it's worth it to detour that far. Sypes could be a good choice too. As of last weekend Grassy Mountain (from the Brackett Creek trailhead north of Bridger Bowl) was reported as "Mostly dry with a few short patches of snow over the first three miles. There were also four or five downed trees. After about three miles (the main crest and flat spot before the last stretch of the climb to the summit), it was very snowy and we turned around." and is probably drying out fast with the heat this week, which would be a super good choice for a great view and see some wildflowers.

I rode Leverich last night, got to the trailhead at like 8:15 and had to wait to get a parking spot and had to make an 80 point turn because dumb fuckin people who don't pull into the parking spots all the way and leave their hitch racks down while they ride. People were parked on the access road just outside of the trailhead parking lot.
Perfect time to ride though, started my descent right as the sun dropped below the horizon and it was nice and cool. Munched on a bunch of Glacier Lilies too, my new favorite trailside snack. Gotta find the hidden patches of em a little off trail to minimize the risk of eating something that a dog has pissed on.

That's about what I figured, thanks! Ride isn't a huge priority, just looking for something to stretch our legs, so we'll probably park at Nash, crank a quick Leveritch and then do downtown stuff.
