I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

ski_salmon69It honestly feels like a huge bike, I have yet to find its limits. I have the 27.5 so i can still throw it around ok. Maybe consider the TR instead of the AM


Probably better for me since I don’t ride much bike parks and mostly just secret trails and other all mtn trails, occasional freeride stuff or machine built jumps. Love me my steeps and loam

Why can’t I find any kids my age to ride with anywhere near me. There’s legit me and 2 other kids in my whole area. It’s super annoying not saying that riding with people who are 18-30 isn’t fun but it’d be nice to have people my age to ride with

Anyone have some good trail recommendations in and around Portland/Seattle? All I know about mountain biking ins Oregon/Seattle is Bellingham and Bend and I won’t be in those areas. Will be with my gf so I’m not looking to do any 20+ mile rides or anything too technical. Maybe a trail system that would let me hit some harder trails and then meet up with her.

I'm from a tad farther south so my experience in the area is limited, but in the Portland area Sandy Ridge would be great for what you're describing

Tiger mountain/raging river near Seattle has a good mix of trails

Yep, Sandy is super fun and the climb up is paved. Stub Stewart is about the same distance in the opposite direction and that’s pretty good too.

As a corvallis local my main stomping ground was blackrock, they took a beating from a big storm this winter that took a lot of shit out and I haven't been back yet but they totally rebuilt this one jump trail that looks super sick. Another great place to go is alsea falls, might be a bit better for beginners. Alsea has a good mix while br is very jump oriented. also bike in bend a lot but the best thing there is the bike park and it won't open for a while. There are some pretty fun trails in bend too (but 80% are boring xc) and good dirt jumps

It took me two seasons of riding to realize that I should stop skidding around corners, go tubeless, and drop my tire pressure. I also wish I did stuff like going to the dirt jumps and practicing cornering earlier on.

alright, I'm going into my second season, and plan on going to local dirt jumps and pump track to practice. My cornering is putrid.

Don't pigeonhole yourself into one type of riding too early (or ever). Too often new riders decide they're a "downhiller" or a "XC rider" for weird arbitrary reasons that don't make sense. Ride a little of everything, get better at everything. It's all fun. Getting good at any one aspect of bikes makes you better at all bikes.

Respect rules, communities, and trail builders. Find opportunities to give back, be nice, say hi, yield to uphill riders. Don't just be a taker.

Don't spend money on a chamois to start out. Spend it on a saddle that fits you instead, if you're getting major rubbing. If you're not, awesome!

Don't worry about switching to clipless pedals immediately, you'll be just fine on flats.

If you're going to spend money upgrading flat pedals, DON'T spend it "upgrading" to Chesters. They suck, there are much better options for the same price.

Tell the builders. They’ll be sure to fuck these guys up especially if the video has lots of views. Illegal trail videos are something I’m normally against unless you have the permission of the builder or are the builder and don’t name it, or location or show clips that could show where it is
