WoFlowzI learned to MTB on one of their XC bikes and while they do some funky stuff I love all the R&D that goes into their frames. The newer stuff is a lot better all tho the current or ig last jeykll had some issues with the carbon rocker arm. I think they are kinda coming back with all the guys that ride for 50to01 and some other rad athletes they sponsor. This year they picked up Max fredrickson and Ben Thompson both insanely stylish slope riders. Ben and Max sauerbrey placed in dirt diaries in 2019 I believe. But I also love purple bikes so that’s part of it. Ik my friends that bike all kinda see cannondale in a good way not crack and fail. Plus high pivots are the future and the present.
But like, what R+D? Like how have they pushed the envelope (outside of building half forks for XC bikes) in the last decade? When was the last time they had a class-leading bike or rider? Slope riders don't count. I'm not impressed by brands nailing the geo of a DJ bike, when was the last time someone made a bad DJ bike? Ther 50to01 guys are cool, but they could put out a cool edit on friggin Walmart bikes, sponsoring them doesn't really push a "performance" brand narrative in any way.
I genuinely don't understand what Cannondale has going for them. Even if they didn't have a dubious history of terrible ideas, just based on the last couple of years, why buy them over literally any other bike? Their only "fun" bike is the Habit? Which has approximately the same geo and travel as a 2017 Santa Cruz Hightower, just with a Horst Link. It's far from cutting edge in its class. They milked the ever-living shit out of that DH bike with the separate spring and damper layout, raced it to mediocre results, and never brought it to market (living in a weird grey area of UCI rules there). When was the last time they delivered anything other than milquetoast mediocrity?
Now they're doing high pivot. That's nice I guess? But like, everybody is doing high pivot. Why not buy the new high pivot Norco we've been teased, or a Forbidden, of the new Devinci, or maybe the new WAO? Why buy a high pivot bike from a brand that hasn't put out an exciting enduro/trail bike in recent memory, doesn't have the affordability of a DTC brand, and doesn't have any high pivot bikes currently on the market?
Color me unimpressed.
