Sure was something special, get off the top of the summit at 6 pm and came down to the car park and was surprised by seeing so many cars still in the parking. One of the roadies got hit and had to be airlifted, RAL fuck ups 101 stuck on the hill till 11:30 PM before the road got cleared.

The new XL jump is mighty flush. Bonus points for the landing which goes forever and ever, you couldn't take it to the Gucci plateau unless you dropped from somewhere on Snowbird.
Plus people threw down on it yesterday.

On the other hand, the odd little line they put in down the far left side of the park... I hit the first feature straight, sailed out to the flats, fell from about 20ft in the air and ate shit. Hooray. Not quite sure how that feature is supposed to work but I feel like you're meant to hip it onto the side tranny?

I hope it's not super crappy.
I have this plan in my mind to go around with a shovel and tidy up a whole bunch of natural features... there's a natural step-up that goes from the top of Elevator Shaft on to the top of Bread Run, would spend a while there and make a fairly large kicker, then a cheeky little wedge on that face between Bread Run and Clay's Leap, followed by a decent sized booter on the skier's left of that valley (above Why Not, I guess?) finishing up with something sizeable up the wind lip on the right just before the valley gets quite narrow.
I figure it would make for something kinda fun to lap off the Noon...

Pretty sweet weekend to close out the season.

I reckon they've got the snow to some sort of November skiing but it's obviously not economically a good idea for them. Not surprising since the only people who ride in November are season pass holders with their own gear that bring their own lunch and don't get lessons = no money coming in.

Good times anyway. 'til June, big icey!

Yeah man that was us (Claim?)

Ill sum up the story in a few quick points.

>Call ski patrol to help man out of crevasse
>Ski Patrol turns up being super cocky and generally being a dick to us when we asked why crevasse wasnt marked off
>Show me your pass
>Refuse to show pass and ski of (If you saw this instructor you would do the same)
>We run from ski patrol yeehaw
>get caught while standing at park
>multiple patrollers around us
>they wont listen to our story
>call cops on us for theft of property because we wouldnt show our passes
>one of the patrollers pretty much assaulting my mate Adam and tried to take his skis
>we manage to calm them down and hold a reasonable conversation with the only respectful patroller
>he cancels the police call
>gives us a big ass lecture
>hes meant to call us today to work out whats gonna happen (loss of passes, suspension or something along those lines)
>haven't received call so i assume they've let us of

I missed a lot of crucial info in there but thats kinda the basic idea

Decent weekend for shenanigans was good catching up with a few of ya. Touring up Whakas this weekend and having a bit of a downhill jam on the road if anyone is interested. Hopefully a fresh dusting on Thursday night

The patrollers on Turoa are pretty strict compared to Whakapapa, just have to make sure you change your gear often enough. I was quite surprised even when touring up to the top of solitude then skiing down to the giant they would check me for my pass. I never hand it over though, been screwed over by them from ducking under roped off areas (caution:Ice)

Hell yeah man. The places has some pretty sick inbounds features. Also massively worth a hike to the summit at least once when the weather is good. Epic view and some solid runs to be had.

Worth bringing your avy gear if you have it.

The weather has some pretty intense swings up there as well. Many times near the end of the day the cloud moves in and visibility goes to shit. Also the icing sometimes earlier in the season is pretty crazy. Never seen anything build up like that. Also there will be some days where it's closed for a few days due to wind. Sometimes the 6 pack wont open for ice or wind. And I've been up there freezing in ice, and then after leaving work walked to new world in shorts and a tshirt in town.

Temp wise the weather is pretty mild off the mtn.

The parks weren't anything ridiculous but they were always fun and flowy.

Also the ruapehu has a longer season than anywhere else down there. There's definitely some good people down there.

Use sunscreen or you'll light on fire.

That's a pretty damn good summary of Ruapehu in a nutshell.

Also +1 million on the sunscreen, since the ozone layer is a bit shit down this ways the burnage can get intense.

You definitely have to go out to town the Friday night before Mardi Gras. Ten times better than Mardi Gras. The pubs are pumping, no fuck wits or little kids and everyone is there to have a good time and get maggot as. Just makes Saturday hell but just day drink and its algood.

It seemed like a no honestly but I saw it on the news here so I had to post. Well it wasn't even the news and it just mentioned "A volcano in NZ" but I figured it might be there.

One of the ski school guys there was telling me he's going back every year until he sees it blow up. I think this has gotta be his 5th or 6th year heading down from the states.

Well the season ain't going well just like riding on ice at the moment. Heading for a skin up on saturday even if the weather is not playing ball. Storm cycles are so brief with those high winds it just isn't happening

It's been a bit of an indian summer here... good for the fishing, not so much for the snow.

It should get pretty damn cold from Friday night but it's going to be clear and crisp, no precipitation to speak of.
Forecast is pointing to some wet snow to approx. 1900m over the next day or so which will be good for base-building up top but is just going to rinse anything below about the top of the Movenpick.

Current long-range forecast says next Wednesday through maybe Saturday should deliver a decent snowfall, as long as it stays cold.
