Replying to Frame Ratio questions... 16:1 etc...

I really like the look of the wide-cropped "cinema style" if you will..... is this usually a 16:1? compared to the 16:9 of the usual size? I noticed in magic lantern you have options to use a crop overlay which would help with composition if you were to later set your sequence settings to 16:1.... or at least I think it's 16:1... does anyone have experience with this? I just want to make sure I have the ratio right....
