The fact that Goepper is seemingly becoming the face of the sport, and will most likely be the most viewed skier in the eyes of non skiers is almost an insult. Freeskiing is about individuality, and Goepper represents a conformed and robotic version of freeskiing. He can flip and spin like a mother fucker but if it doesn't look good what't the fucking point. Props to the guy for winning mad gold medals, but I don't like the fact that he seems to be the media's ambassador of freeskiing, that's not how I want non skiers to view skiing.
Also after years of watching skiers and films and edits it's almost strange to think of different countries competing against each other. Freeskiing comps always hold the sole purpose of progressing the sport as a whole, but this seems to be very different than the olympics' principle; to compete agains other countries. Sure it will progress the sport and push it to places it's never been, but is that necessarily a good thing? I don't want freeskiing to go the same route as skateboarding did, where you see p rod and malto on fucking espn and shit.
sorry to rant my unpopular opinion (at least I think it's unpopular).
