J.D.1. Jojen dying... seems like he could be pretty important in Martin's narrative going forward, no?
KZAbooooooohooooooo.
We all knew Jojen was gonna get merked if he hadn't been already (can still be mixed into the weirwood paste to). No coldhands, but they still made it to the cave. Tyrion still killed a whore and his father. Stannis still came. LSH can still come, I was super disappointed but hopefully Frey's will be hanging all next season building up to a reveal.
As much as I'd like things to be closer to the books, it's a TV show. As soon as you come to terms with the fact that this isn't the books, the more you'll enjoy it.
Huck_NorrisThis thread is a 100% confirmation that reading the book makes it impossible to chill the fuck out and just watch the show for what it is.
J.D.I suspect that it will be some sort of encounter between Brienne / Pod and Arya / Hound, leading to Hound getting mortally wounded and Brienne getting captured while Arya flees. Then, LSH.
DERS.you are a mod, and still posting this shit. really dude, c'mon. keep your opinions/predictions to yourself if you know what is going to happen. even though it didn't go down exactly like that, you're better than that.
J.D.I predicted
DERS.just don't do it. not that hard. go predict the outcome of a world cup game or something if you wanna feel smart. talk about theories and differences after that shit airs, its annoying but by all means do it, but its not a prediction when you know what is going to happen.

J.D.Can you read? I didn't know it was going to happen. How could I? What I posted is not in the books. Do I work on the show? No I do not.
DERS.i just have a hard time believing you didn't know the hound was gonna be off'ed this episode. maybe not that way, but i doubt GRRM left the end of his life open ended.
gRAPEFRUITA show that has characters with motivations that make little sense?

J.D.Really, you doubt it, huh? Because if you search google for it you will find literally hundreds of pages of discussion and speculation from book readers about whether the Hound is alive or dead. Here is one example:
http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/60808-the-gravedigging-hound-complete-analysis/
Apparently for the purposes of the show it's a closed question, but it was very much up for debate what happened to him in the books.

DERS.i honestly dont really dont care man, i didnt read the books nor do i care to. but you don't have to be such a dickass about it.. just saying your "predictions" when you know what happens next (whether he'd dead or not mentioned again or whatever) are not predictions but spoilers. but whatever dude the seasons over, ill jus gato my ass out of here.

KZABecause it is annoying as fuck to hear people complain that it wasn't up to their expectations. I myself was one of those people after I read all the books between the 1st and 2nd season. I complained about Jojen and Meera not being at Winterfell before Bran/Rickon fled. It made literally no difference though.
Here is a good post from Reddit showing how to fix the things people mentioned (Tysha, Jamie, Etc.)
http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/289qeu/simple_ways_to_fix_s4e10_changes_from_the_books/
A lot of these things can easily be added in or will make no difference by the end of next season.
gRAPEFRUITTo expand upon this....
The show has such great source material to work with. A series that is epic and so enjoyable and builds great characters/ story lines. I understand that the show writers feel the need to put their mark on it, but when you take something that has such significance as Tyrion's conversation with Jamie, something that turns a character on his head, and cut it it out completely it makes you wonder. That conversation forms the arc of not only Tyrion but of Jamie as well. It leads them to do things in the future that they wouldn't normally do.
We could be surprised and these moments could pop up in Season 5 and the arc could continue on. I think for now though, book readers are justified in their criticism, of a show that has prided itself on remaining close to the books. They took a wonderful opportunity to show the turning point of two characters and punted it to show what? Jon burning Ygritte?
As for LSH I was upset at first, but I get it. It fit perfectly, but I trust that they aren't going to cut it out like the did for a certain character north of the wall.
Why do people get upset when book readers voice their opinions? It says BASED ON A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, it would be one thing if it was completely original, but it's not.
Huck_Norrisyou'd be infinitely less of a douche about it falling short of your lofty expectations right now, thanks for illustrating my point perfectly. You only know about the shit left out if you read the book. To know is to douche
J.D.Additionally, the protocol for this thread is not clearly established. Initially everyone was all "NO SPOILERS! NO BOOK TALK!" Then everyone decided that that was stupid, and that people complaining about spoilers had a stick up their ass and spoilers are inevitable when discussing this show on the internet. Now we're back to "NO SPOILERS! NO BOOK TALK!" I'm honestly happy with either standard so it's up to everyone else posting in here. Is this, or is this not, a spoiler thread? Can people talk about the differences from the show compared to the books and what they thought was missing etc, or can't they? I really don't care, but make up your goddamned minds about it already.
J.D.In what way is people saying they were disappointed with the episode because it wasn't as good as the source material "being a douche"? This word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
Huck_NorrisI dunno man, it just sounds incredibly whiny after watching what I thought was a pretty fkn awesome episode to click on this thread and see that people are just losing their shit left and right because it wasn't their exact fantasy. That's why I said one can't help but be a detail douche after reading the books and trying to watch the show. It's a lost cause trying to enjoy yourself, hell it even happens with movies and I've even been there. I get it.

But yeah. Moving forward it may help the book readers in this thread to just give up the plot Nazi schtick completely and resign to just enjoy the ride. The books will be the books, the show will be the show. Wouldn't it be fucking boring if they were the same goddam thing??
To read the book and then watch a show/movie is a recipe for instant disappointment. Always has been, always will be.
J.D.You heard the man, only positive reaction allowed in this thread from now on!
For me, there's a difference between being a plot nazi (i.e. every single little detail wasn't right) and the show actually screwing with the material to make it appreciably worse. Complaining about the former is kind of annoying, but complaining about the latter is totally justified. It's like if they did a movie version of Hamlet where Hamlet lives at the end.
Either way, I don't think the word you're looking for is "douche".

Huck_NorrisBahahaha... You know what? You're right. I can never possibly fathom how shitty that episode really was. I was a fool for thinking it was good and I am an ass for having enjoyed myself.
skier_boy26The arrival of Stannis could have been a bit better, but considering they're working on an actual budget and not pages, there is only so much you can do. They blow through every bit of cash they get, so I'll take it.
J.D.You're allowed to like it, just as others are allowed to dislike it... different opinions are allowed and they're not annoying or douchey because you happen not to agree with them; that was the point.
Huck_NorrisLol ok JD. Although it is definitely annoying I'll resign from refering to it as "douchey" from here on out so nobody gets any more sand in their vaginas.
Now on to someone I actually do want to personally insult though:
Whichever one of you fucking cocksucking assholes completely fucked the dog last week when you just HAD to be a smug twat and mention that the comment about dying on a toilet was foreshadowing... Nah, I didn't want to be in suspense as to whether Tyrian was going to kill Tywin or not, it was much better that you ruined it for me completely with an off handed comment that meant literally nothing, but would ruin one of the pivotal moments in teh fucking series. Thanks ya fuckin' dickhead. SUPER COOL POINTS FOR YOU!
gRAPEFRUITSomeone's rustled.
--ski--Brienne beating The Hound ..... Bullshit.
J.D.Hound with a festering infected wound that makes it hard for him to walk? He wasn't exactly at his best.
J.D.It sucked.
Disclaimer: I am not one to complain about creative license taken to make the books fit into a TV medium, I'm normally fine with the changes. That is the first episode I have legitimately hated. Some of my gripes are budget-driven but some are just Benioff and Weiss (and whoever else is responsible for that travesty) bastardizing the story in order to create clear and unambiguous heroes and villains which is contrary to the entire point of this enterprise.
1. Jojen dying... seems like he could be pretty important in Martin's narrative going forward, no? The "children" turned out to be one child, and the Bloodraven reveal was done in such a way as to essentially require me to ask "so ****** what?" Also they did a terrible job of the visual there; just looked like a guy stuck in a bush. Here is some art that approximates my mental picture of what he's supposed to look like:
2. Dany and the dragons was okay, not very emotionally powerful but hard to say how it could've been improved.
3. Could Stannis's arrival have been any more anticlimactic? When reading it that scene paralleled, for me, Gandalf's arrival at Helm's Deep to save the Rohirrim. Some of this is budgetary but the bird's eye view of lines of cavalry riding it to the rather ho-hum battle scene was yawn-inducing. Incidentally were all the giants sleeping?
4. Everything involving Brienne, Sandor and Arya was good. Best part of the episode, not a bad departure from the books.
5. Tyrion's stuff sucked. First, if you cut the largely pointless Ygritte-funeral scene, maybe you have enough screen time to cover how it was that Jaime broke him out so hilariously easily. But more importantly, the show has made Tyrion's character noticeably shallower, and Jaime's as well. The Tywin scene was lacklustre but even beyond that... the Shae thing makes no sense. She betrayed him, slept with his father who incidentally arranged to have him killed for a crime he did not commit, and upon seeing him, tries to stab him. Yet he's really broken up about killing her in self defense? F off. In those ten minutes the show demonstrated its massive, complete inferiority as a medium. This is one of the top 5 events of the whole series and I despised what they did with it. Just absolute trash.
I have not questioned much in the way of departing from the source material but that made me actually irritated watching it. If they'd done the LSH reveal properly at the end that might have salvaged it somewhat for me but they completely punted on that. Possibly just cut out of the show altogether.
That leaves a terrible taste in my mouth and now it has to remain there for the better part of a year.
Huck_NorrisI'll admit, I was not stoked that I instantly knew exactly what was going to happen the second I saw him on the shitter. It really did completely ruin that whole pivotal scene completely- and for no reason at all too.
I don't even care enough to look back at who it really was, I just wanted you to know you're a fucking cunt scab whoever you are haha.
*CUMMINGS*You do realize the thread is in no way spoiler-free, right? Would you prefer I have been more open about it!
Huck_NorrisNo I'd prefer you kept possibly the biggest spoiler so far under your hat seeing as it added nothing to the convo at all yet fucking ruined that shit completely for me and for others too.
So yeah. Thanks man. Just ruined the fucking finale to the finale, no big deal.

Barefootin_Fiendno one made you read the thread that you KNEW could contain spoilers.....???...???
i'd avoid this shit like the plague if i were you....
snwbrdmilfDefinitely, I stopped coming in this thread at all because its only for people who have read the books. Not for anyone who enjoys the show simply to enjoy the show...
I always want to come in and discuss the episode, and then the finale scene with Tywin is ruined for me bc I also, knew he was off'd before it every happened because someone couldn't keep their mouth shut.
So I totally understand where Huck is coming from. This thread is bs.
KZAI think this could be a great place to discuss the books, the show, and some of the differences between the two of them. But people need to think about the shit they post before they do. If it hasn't happened in the show then don't mention it or allude to it. Let it be a surprise for everyone like it was for you.
