How come nobody calls first anymore?

I miss the days where calling first was an achievement to write home about. What gives? At some point, that completely died out.

I'm on a mission from god to bring it back.

I kind of miss that. The reason why is because the homepage is different, and the stories are not placed in evidence like they used to.
They used to be the first thing seen on the homepage, and I admit I don't read the stories anymore since the newer layout.
If they were more in your face kind of deal, more people would click on them and they would be seen as "important" so members saw that as an achievement when they got "first".

You should check the top rated news page more. Or latest... there's all kinds of firsts to bag in there.

Dude people used to call first on obscure member blog posts just to get it.

I do agree, there's less of a centralized single spot where getting firsts is the holy grail, but in aggregate there is opportunity out there.

I find it incredibly satisfying to blast a first in there. It means you're an explorer... you're one of the brave that have gone into the depths of newschoolers and assist with rising the good stuff out of the mess that is the internet.

I'm going to get more than you.

It has to do with the old homepage. Every article that went up was immediately seen by a bunch of people. Now they have to float to the top and you're not always sure right away if it's going to be a hit or not. I miss the first calls too but the current homepage is better.

Please don't call first in threads, its annoying.

The fact kids are just randomly posting in every M&A thread "first for bishop" is getting really old.

Im not sure why this thread even got made, kids call first on every article and thread and used to be ridiculed when they said first in a thread, now pretty much every thread has some "first for bishop" kinda line... thanks doug.
