the idea of purchasing a magazine that is basically just a compilation of internet forum material and pictures that i already have full easy access to, to me, is pointless.
Then don't purchase one -- we're not forcing it down your throat. You didn't have to click this thread. You didn't have to post a reply. I know it's your opinion and you want to get it heard -- but making assumptions about it just being a "cash grab" is pretty ignorant IMO.
didn't you guys try something like this before with skeeze magazine? i don't even remember what that was all about, but where did that go?
No, that was K2.
I wouldnt read reddit magazine to see a compilation of their material. i wouldn't read facebook magazine to see a compilation of interesting articles and pictures that people put up, or stats on what is most liked and most commented on. i wouldn't read youtube magazine to get the scoop on what videos are trending and what news i can gather.
I wouldn't read a reddit, Facebook, or Youtube magazine either. What's your point?
break.com pays video uploaders $250 if your free-to-upload video hits the home page. so this justifies them making a break.com magazine full of their content too?
If that's something their members want, then why not?
Again, what does this have to do with our magazine? You're reaching very far with a lot of these comparisons.
i don't understand the point you're trying to make by saying you hook up photographers with $350 for a spread. if it's just a random fact, cool, im glad you pay out a small fraction of what you profit. but it still doesn't justify why an internet website needs its own magazine full of the same, yet condensed material taken from screen and put on paper with a price tag slapped on it.
Did you forget the fact that you called it a cash grab? Do you realize that people are STOKED on the concept? Did you miss the part where I said all the money we make off the magazine simply goes back into making the website more badass? Did you know that we pay our content creators for the videos, photos, and news they upload? Does that bother you? Should we not try and find better ways to distribute the little money available in the industry? What about the fact that every single person I've spoken to who has content in the magazine (whether it be a photo, video, news article, thread, comment, reply, etc.) is fucking AMPED that they could go to their local Barnes & Nobles and pick up a copy.
Are you content with Freeskier and Powder being the two media heavyweights in North America? Are you that opposed to there being an alternative?
You've been on Newschoolers long enough to realize that not everything we do is driven by money....
