when i graduate in a year as a mechanical engineer i want to spend money and have fun my whole life. can an average engingeer like ymself make enough money to live in these kind of places?

anyone know of any firms i can send my resume to for a intership in these two states for next summer?

i'd pick california over florida any day even if i was making less money. the state as a whole just has more to offer and isn't a giant funeral home like florida

Florida blows. I live here and I hate it. Don't move here.. You know when you go to your grandmas house and it smells like old people? That is what Florida smells like.. Eventually you get used to it and move on, but do you wanna live in a place that smells like old people and everyone around you is waiting to die?

Florida is a grade A, stage 5 shithole. If you aren't used to ridiculous humidity you are going to be completely miserable every second of every day that you are not inside with air conditioning. And there's a fuck ton of sharks in the ocean, so you got that goin for ya

i don't understand the hate on FL. the scuba diving is fucking amazing, the fishing is phenomenal, the beaches are better than any that i've been to in California (except for the surfing aspect), the water skiing is fucking great. it's an awesome state. the only thing FL doesn't have going for it is that it's obviously not ideal for a die hard skier....which i guess explains my first statement.

I'm an engineer and live in Montana and make more money than I should, but don't take base salary only into account. You need to look at cost of living. I know that taxes are much higher in California than Florida, but also take into account rent/ buying a home, insurance on cars and homes, and other expenses because someone making 100K a year in place A may not have as much expendable income as someone making 80K a year in place B.

Also, California is the largest state in the country by population, the third largest state by area, and 12th largest economy in the WORLD and your job hunting scheme is to ask newschoolers NSG if anyone knows of any engineering firms there?

I can't believe you have to ask. Who the F goes to Florida besides people who just want to get drunk and lay on the beach all day? Clear answer, Cali has Mts (skiing, longboarding, crotch rocketing the canyons...), desert, good surfing, Mexico nearby... Florida has a bunch of haggly old people and orange girls

but to the engineering part, I may be biased from my time spent there but I would think you'll have a better time getting an engineering job in Cali too. Active oil industry, and my friend from MN got an engineering job and he spends a lot of his time working in his companies California office

good luck, I wouldn't mind finding myself back in L.A. again. BIg Bear and Mt. high aren't good for snow it's like skiing most places in April, but park everywhere. You can ski with someone who doesn't do park but you don't have to split up from them because it seems like almost all the runs have features=THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!

agreed, depends on what aspect your looking at for "fun" if you want that crazy party fun, thats mostly in Cali, but if ypur fun is going to relax and fish, head to Florida, buy a nice boat, work the week days, and fish or just fuck around on the deep blue sea on your boat.

i lived in florida for 19 years and can say it is complete shit. why anyone would want to move there is beyond me. i now live in colorado where it is perfect. im not going to explain why florida is terrible it just is

I live in Florida and it sucks

Move to California , it has mountains which should be enough of a reason to move there over Florida to any skier

It's literally the shithole of America. It's flat, it's hot and humid, and the average IQ there is probably about 10 points lower.

Yeah I have. I'm just throwing in my two cents. There is a place for everyone in this state and that's what makes it so great. There definitely are more douchebags in the state than others, but having been raised in CA I guess it doesn't really phase me as much as it seems to phase other people.
