Best college for skiing

As a senior next year, my highschool demands me to hand in a list of 6-8 colleges to apply for next fall term. I compiled a list of some colleges that might be the best for any passionate skier and wanted to ask you guys for some serious opinion. I'm planning on applying to colleges where I can study some business/entrepreneur/marketing while being able to ski quite a lot, with easy access to the slopes, etc.
I'll appreciate any kind of advice.

I can vouch for The University of California, Riverside. I live 50 minutes from my home mountain: Mountain High. Even with a busy PhD schedule I managed 40 days last season. Big bear is a tad farther, and Mammoth is roughly 5-6 hours away. Mountain High offers night skiing 5 days a week (used to be 7) and their park is top. Nothing like working all day, then driving to Mountain High and lapping the park till 10pm. The quality of education is great being in the UC system. USC, UCLA, and UCI are also nice SoCal schools, but a bit of a hike to the local mountains.

But the beach is 20 minutes from my house too. Littered with wet orange county pussy. LITTERED.

I go to Westmini and i couldn't be happier. Regardless of which school, i would try to keep it in SLC cause its so much closer to so many more resorts than most places!

UVM has pretty good education while having a sick freeski team definitely look there and they're are shuttles up to the mountains from burlington for a pretty cheap price plus a college discount on a season pass.

in terms of education it's Dartmough, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Colorado College, Colby, Bates.

UNH is, honestly, overrated as a ski school. And if you want to seriously ski don't consider Amherst or Williams.

If you have EC roots go west. Get some culture, see the country. College is your opportunity to travel, especially if all of it, or some of it, is funded by your parents. This the time to figure out what you want to do with your life so why not get a taste of everything. Skiing is the most important thing still, obviously.

Colby and Bates, both in Maine, are prime choices for education and skiing. I won't go into it because there are plenty of other comments explaining why you should pick these schools, but I'm just giving it another thumbs up.

Montana State University is by far one of the best college's for skiing. I've lived in Bozeman my whole life, and there are 3 different ski areas that are within a hour (Big Sky, Bridger, Moonlight). I grew up racing so I've been all over and our skiing here is definitely some of the best in America. Big Sky being the best of the three! (:

I just stumbled across the thread and I think some people are being a bit overzealous throwing out names like Stanford, Cal, and Dartmouth like one can just walk into them. All are top 20 schools with acceptance rates <15%... I just wanted to provide some context for the OP, as it was not mentioned except for one veiled reference. But hey, what do I know, I'm applying Early Decision to Rice (In Houston) so obviously I have other priorities than skiing. However, both of my parents went to Colby so I do know a good bit about the school. I agree with some of the posters who encouraged the OP not to rule out a school, simply because it does not have an undergrad business school. Colby is very strong in economics and mathematics, both of which are liberal arts fields, yet applicable and marketable to businesses. My dad for example was accepted to a top 20 business school, even though he only had a 3.5 GPA in college. That shows the strength of the program.

if you don't mind Mormans then BYU is only an hour away from Park City, but overall you should be determining what college you choose based on things aside from skiing.

I chose my school based on skiing as well.  I started college at Montana state before transfering to Western State College of Colorado.  I enjoyed both a lot, Montana State is a little closer to skiing with Bridger only 15 minutes away and Big Sky 45 Mins.  Western was my preference just because I liked a little smaller school (2500 students as opposed to 16000) but Montana State has an awesome business programn and crested butte is 30 minutes away although there is a free bus.  Not sure about the other ones I have heard things but no direct experience.  Hope this helps.

Fort Lewis is nice and easy. If you like a small school/small town feel and if you like Durango, the fort is a nice option.

Hey Man I just went through this myself. I'm headed to CU next year. But DU actually isn't that close to skiing more like 2 hours. UVM is more like an hour to Smugglers and Stowe, good mountains but nothing compared to out west. UNH is similar to UVM but worse mountains are closer. U of U I think is the ultimate ski school. 45 minutes from Snowbird and Alta. Mass transit runs a bus out there and I believe the bus pass is included in your student ID!! But U of U isn't as good of an school as some of the others on your list. UBC is an amazing school but again really isnt that close to skiing, so unless you have a car and really manipulate your schedule your only gonna be skiing on weekends. I chose CU because it has tons of options and is a great ski school and also a great school for my major, engineering.

Probably cant go wrong on anything on your list!

Plymouth State in NH is about a half hour from both Waterville Valley and Loon. It's not the greatest college, but it is a half hour from two top notch NH ski areas

A couple people said Dartmouth, what resorts would be around in either NH or VT that you could ski at pretty close by, preferably with a good park?

And double post but I got some stuff to put in. You asked about UO and OSU. I toured both of them and they're both dope but they're super expensive and 3ish hours from baker alone.... not much to choose from.

And I'm going to University of Utah so im biased there but its fucking perfect.

And also being from Reno, UNR has all the Tahoe resorts close and has super good Math and Engineering programs... downside. You have to live in fucking reno nevada

OP and this thread are morons how has Nevada (UNR/Nevada-Reno) not been mentioned?

Tahoe resorts collectively have the best terrain in the continental USA its not even debatable. Apart from Kwood which is 90 minutes all the other Tahoe mountains are an hour or less.

UNR is also an excellent school assuming you want to live in the Western USA. It might not be the best degree to take back to New York state with but you can count the number of schools on the west coast better than it on one hand. And it is academically superior to any other schools in the states of Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.

You make a good sales pitch, but it sounds better than it is. Maine has been having some snow difficulties over the past few years due to fluctuating weather. We get dumped on pretty hard a few times a winter but each storm is always followed by rain then freezing wind. I have to compliment Lost Valley in that their park has greatly improved due to the efforts of the park crew, they've made a load of new rails and stepped up their game big time, but sadly weather does not cooperate and one would be better suited wearing ice skates. The same can be said for Sunday River except for the new park being built which is hopefully successful. The skiing in Maine would be excellent if it weren't for the constant ice that makes hauling ass terrifying.

As for Lewiston, there are indeed nice areas in that territory, but they are few and far apart. I don't go into lewiston unless i absolutely have to and the overall feel of the town is pretty sketchy. Theres definitely some nice looking urban around but the possibility of getting rolled up on by the cops is just as high as the possibility of getting stabbed, and that town is patrolled like Nazi Germany. With all of that said, 58k a year is fucking ridiculous and your parents money could be spent more wisely.

I'm a marketing major at Westminster.  They have a solid, respected business school and fantastic skiing half an hour from campus.  I highly recommend.

If your a big or all mountain skier, I would say nothing would beat UBC for sure. Although, all in all pick the right school based on what you think is going to make you happy, and what may be the best fit education-wise. UBC is huge. Say you want liberal arts though. You may try Whitman or on the east coast, Bowdoin, Bates, etc. I went to Bowdoin, and started the Ski & Ride club there with some buddies. Pretty much raised funding to take vehicles wherever you want from sugarloaf to mt washington and avalanche courses - to all the way up in the Chic Chocs in Quebec. Point being there's lots to explore in the Northeast too. Feel free to pm if you want.. this was a big decision for me when I was going through that time haha.. but ultimately not the most important thing in your college life..

Michigan Tech up in the UP has owns its own ski hill. THe school is small but I'm pretty sure it has a pretty good program in engineering. Positive is skiing all week. Its also pretty close to Mt. Bohemia, which is like backcountry type skiing.
