Anyone in the NYC/NJ/Westchester/CT area need some car advice please

So I drive a 2003 vw jetta 2.0 5 speed manual. Currently have about 120,000 miles on it and she is running strong. Only problem is that she failed inspection today because the catalytic converter isn't "efficient" enough, is what the guy told me.

My question to yall is, how much does this typically cost to repair? Im a pretty big car noob abuot fixing engine stuff so I have no idea.

Also, another serious question.

How hard would it be to locate a place that I could pya off to pass inspection? If anyone knows a good place please PM me would highly appreciate it.

cat for your car seem to be 105$ that being cheap as fuck compared to most now that being said go somewhere eles and see if you get the same answer guy may be just trying to make a buck off you.

I have the exact same problem currently. My catalytic converter is cracked and failed inspection last week. The part for my car was 350 bucks. I called around to local shops in my area and the cheapest I could find was 400-600 dollars. and that's if I provide the part.

You could always buy a Haynes manual, hit up Youtube and try to do it yourself. It isnt an impossible job for the regular joe, but definately a challenge.

I dont have nearly enough tools to do that job at my house. Im not a mechanical retard, I canfigure things out, but I just choose to let professionals fix my car instead of me. Im looking at similar pricing. IT sucks so bad because the car runs pretty well.
