Went out for the perseids show and caught something nice. My camera has been extra grainy for my night photos recently though. I have some kinks to work out.
supercooladinhigher temperatures and longer exposures both cause more grain so you're probably noticing a combination of that. nice pic btw

TingaThe thing that I have noticed that makes the biggest difference is to find a good location far from any lights at all. I use Dark Site Finder to make sure I'm far enough away from anything.
Also Make sure you have an interesting foreground, that can really add to the picture.
