im 15 and I just got my braces because my mom had surgury 2 years ago we couldnt pay for both..When did you get your braces and when did you get them off?

I had mine from like 14 to 15 and a half. Wear your retainers, and also, if you have little rubber bands to fix your bite, WEAR THEM. They suck, but I could have gotten mine off 6 months earlier if I did

I had various stuff like retainers, spacers, and expanders in my mouth from 3rd grade up to 7th grade. It really wasn't that bad, Little kids thought it was cool to have that shit when in reality it kinda sucked. I could be wrong, but I think I got my braces towards the end of 7th grade. It's kind of hard to remember, but I got them off in June of my freshman year. Tbh, you don't notice them really once your mouth gets used to them, and they aren't as bad as people make you think. At times, yes it does suck ass, like the first week you get them on they hurt so bad because they are super tight. But all the pain of having them goes away once you get them off.

If you are thinking about getting them, Get them if you have the money. Even if your 30. It sucks at times having them, and you may feel stupid at times for having them, but once its over, its over, and it is awesome.

In the end I'm super glad my mom put me through the orthodontist.

I got them off when I was around 14ish.. But I also got them on when I was like 10 probably, and now I have invisalign.. totally not as bad as braces.

I got mine in grade 5 just on my 4 top, front teeth and then in grade 7 got the whole mouth set-up until grade 9 or 10 can't remember what grade I got them off. Afterwards i had to wear a retainer whenever I went to bed for a couple years or so.

How did you guys do with cleaning teeth every night/not drinking super sugary stuff? I got the teeth brushing/flossing/mouthwash on lock but I usually just forget about what not to eat, and I just dont want those white lines on my teeth forever.

Retainer is the shittiest part. Youre so fatigued after a full round if braces that you are just like fuuuuck that noise. But you gotta do what the doc says or its a waste

definitely wear your retainer at night, my sister didn't and they almost had to put braces back on her because her teeth shifted so much

10 years out from having them off I have learned this lesson the hard way. Cosmetic dentistry is NOT cheap. Might even need to have braces again on the lower teeth.

Seriously there are many, MANY other things I would prefer to spend this $5k or so on (and I have really good insurance, so the total cost is more than that).

$4800 is what I was quoted. Now again, this is a cosmetic dentist with a good reputation so things are going to be more expensive than usual. This was for "invisalign" to fix the top teeth and braces on the bottom to fix those as well. Somewhere I have pics of how badly things got messed up in 10 years, it's pretty sad. Not nearly as bad as before I had braces, but still significantly different.

 The cost for my original braces was something like $4k ($5500 if you count the periodontic procedure I had to have as well) and that was a little over 10 years ago. Insurance coverage varies for this kind of procedure. I think mine covered a little more than half and parents paid for the rest.

i got upper and lower braces and a bite block (retainer) but what i really need are the bands for my over bite my teeth are fine other than my bite

mine were almost $6,000 and my insurance only covered 1,000 it was like $20's off or so of being 6,000

I had mine from 13-15. My orthodontist was the man but died in a tragic plane accident with his wife, two daughters and babysitter (flew his own plane). I'm thankful for the awesome teeth he gave me. RIP.

got my teeth knocked in up into the roof of my mouth, took 2 years for the roots to catch back, got braces on Freshamn year in HS, now i am a junior and still have them on but getting off soon, fml

yes- this. I only had braces on the top for an overbite, otherwise my teeth were pretty straight. I didn't wear my retainer and my overbite came back but I don't really care because who gives a shit about an overbite? Although it probably contributes to me having TMJ...

But in reality I could probably use braces again, only this time on the bottom. When my wisdom teeth came in they caused crowding on the bottom. fml.

I had a retainer for 4 years so my teeth were really straight but my mom being a dental hygienist and a perfectionist, I got braces for just under a year at the end of grade 8

I dunno why you guys wouldn't wear your retainer. I forget how long you are supposed to wear it for, 1 or 2 years? But I wore it religiously 24/7 except when I was eating meals. 11 years later my teeth are still perfectly straight and haven't moved a millimeter.

They're so horrible when they're on, but the second they get off it's all worth it. So many adults have terrible teeth and it just makes them look sloppy

Getting braces when you are older is not uncommon now. I know plenty of people in college who have braces, I've even seen 40+ year olds with braces.

My dad just got braces, hes 60. He never liked the way his teeth looked so i think one day he was like fuck it, im getting them fixed.

no worries lol. My sister had them on from her sophomore year to her senior year (my sophomore year) and my parents couldn't afford to have two kids with braces. So we ended up just putting them on now. My teeth are fucked up so i'm just glad they'll be straight eventually lol. And naww my orthodontist is a G. The nurses there are annoying tho lol

Here's the thing though, straight teeth make you more attractive. So, every interaction you have with any human being is improved with perfect teeth. People assume you aren't poor, any classy chick wouldn't fuck a guy with bad teeth. Every time you are in a job interview you have a physical asset to show off instead of hide from. A lot of little things day to day add up.  Also, if your orthodontist is worth a shit, he is monitoring all your teeth pretty much every month and adjusting/tightening your whole setup accordingly to get the perfect fit for all your teeth in the end. Its a high up front cost, but once its all over and you are bragging about your teeth instead of being self conscious about them, I'd say its well worth it.

Why don't more people do Invisalign? I have 2 people very close to me who did it (one was only a year and the other had huge corrections over 2 years). Both cost almost exactly the same as the quote for braces. Are some people not good candidates for it? It's way nicer and you can't tell unless you are looking for it.

I was lucky enough to have straight teeth and 4 perfect wisdom teeth so I know nothing about the dentist past a toothbrushing.

I also had a night retainer and that shit broke when i was like 16, havent used one since and im definitely not going back to that hell hole people refer to as an orthodontist, my teeth will last me the rest of my life, people didnt have braces for like 10,000 years.

Yeah some people can't do them, they only correct so much. Like if you have teeth that aren't inlined properly (I mean like way off) or your bite isn't good, stuff like that. But just slight adjustments and angles etc you can use it for. I have a gnarly overbite and was lucky to be able to get invisaline.
Shoot.... I havent worn them today.. I'll be back while I go get them haha
