Glad the broncos are finally getting tested. Their offense is amazing but he d can't stop a good team. And the colts beating Seattle and Denver is consecutive weeks. Pretty impressive.

All this talk about safety in the NFL, here's how to fix it. Take a look at Rugby and follow that. Wrap up. Require players to actually tackle and not just it and it will become safer. Have players be required to wrap up and take players to ground instead of just smashing into each other.

but seriously you're correct. Rugby is just as violent sans pads but marginally safer because of the rules and how the game is taught.

Unfortunately from a very young age football players are taught to use there helmet as a weapon and point of contact, they learn that all the way through high school, college and by the time their pros its just a part of who they are and ingrained in how they play the game. You gotta start re-teaching these kids the fundamentals on how to fucking properly tackle

First of all the Tuck Rule was not called in live action. It was a play that the refs had to review because it was under 2 minutes and all turnovers or big plays get reviewed. The rule was clearly in the rule book. It wasn’t even close. Walt Coleman had no choice but to reverse the call at that point unless he just felt like ignoring the rulebook. In fact he said it was an EASY decision to reverse it. Because if he didn’t he would have been crucified after the game and it probably would have set planet earth on an irreversible path of destruction. Furthermore the game didn’t end with the Tuck Rule. The Raiders till had the chance to win the game after that in OT.

I agree with the wrapping up part but rugby is nowhere near as violent as football, 75% of football players on the field smash into each other on every single play, half of rugby is just running next to people and has way less head on collisions. rugby is just a big moving cluterfuck and football is smash, stop, smash, stop, smash, stop

I think they are taking the steps to try and do this. I always hear about announcers and coaches trying to help the youths learn to play properly and it comes down to tackling. Hopefully it actually works and the players of the future learn how to tackle not hit.

Dude its fine. Hating a team because it is better than your own is a common reaction. But my team got cheated, it is so painfully obvious it's fucking sad.

The NFL gets fucking worse every single year, like it is measurable. They are subtly phasing out special teams, make the QB's nearly untouchable, and invent countless, worthless rules every year that make the game suck that much more from the previous one. I'm pissed about the Pats but I'm more pissed about the state of the NFL.

Rugby is just as violent. The way you describe rugby as a big moving clusterfuck shows your ignorance beacuse you clearly haven't watched a game before. Go watch a maul, ruck/counter ruck, a scrum or a proper clean out and tell me how rugby isn't smash, stop, smash, stop

Rugby is a thugs game played by gentleman, where as the NFL is a thugs game played by thugs

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love football and the NFL but the difference between the sports isn't the violence its how the abuse is applied. Young kids strap on helmets like they are weapons, they feel invincible and it's a domino affect that lasts their entire playing lives

Yeah thats been brought up a lot as an option but that drastic of a change would leave a lot of people mad and probably inure/kill a ton of players if it wasn't implemented correctly

A lot of these concussions injuries don't come from the big highlight reel hits. It's from the every down nature of guys using their helmets for leverage and as a weapon. You don't see the running back of linebacker meet head first in a pile because of all the bodies. But do that 3-4 times a game over the span of a careers worth of games/practices and you have some very serious brain issues.

Obviously the brandon meriweather style hits are also very bad for concussions but any report I've read always says is the hits you don't really see. The lineman battling in the trenches, a linebacker making 15 tackles a game, a safety in run support making tackles with his helmet. That's the shit that is seriously hurting these guys because the way they are taught from a very young age is flawed

no, the way I described it was pretty much spot on.

you're only talking about one time of injury and one piece of equipment and ignoring the fact that now that head to head hits are being phased out that we're seeing more and more lower body potentially career ending injuries.

We remove the one thing you're talking about and the it type injuries just change they don't go away

How was what you described accurate? You have no basis to make a comparison between rugby and football because you obviously have no knowledge of rugby. A majority of a rugby game is played with body on body contact much in the same respect as football. The difference is when a rugby player hits a hole, he doesn't lower his head like it's a fucking battering ram. Likewise the rugger making the tackle also doesn't try and knock the ball carrier on his ass using his head.

You're clueless head to head hits are NOT being phased out. It's still an epidemic in the league and just as prevalent as recent years. The only difference is in NCAA you are seeing a TON more targeting/lower body injuries and player are no diving at knees/ankles. Again poor tackling form resulting in terrible injuries

I'm not talking about removing anything, I'm talking about a re-education in how players are taught to tackle

then why don't I hate unc, ucla, kentucky? bc KU basketball is the only team I take even remotely personally and I actually like all of those programs.

3 superbowls before being caught cheating, 0 after. thats the only reason. but ignorance is bliss I guess especially for someone who's self worth is apparently linked to a football team

It was in the rule book but the guy that "pushed" was on the line of scrimmage which wasnt against the rules until the NFL tried to subtly change it.

haha, lets have a what game will percy return pool. my bet is november 10th give him a couple weeks to get up to speed, some limited reps against atlanta to get back up to speed, then a bye the week after for extra rest and practice with russ...should be about ready to unleash on new orleans and finish the season strong.

That was my guess too. Seems like a perfect scenario and right now they have a solid run game that's working so if we can keep winning up until then and get Russ and Percy in the same page. That's just gona make things that more deadly.

There will still be offended people. There are lots of people who rightly think the Indians and their logo is offensive, same with the Blackhawks. The Chiefs' logo isn't much of anything so no one seems to care much on that one. 

Your idea would take things in the right direction though, for sure.

^ Good point about the chiefs, no issue there I guess. But it's going to happen at some point so why not stop the bleeding. Just better not choose some dumb ass name like the Wizards. Maybe there should be a double switch. If they changed it from the redskins and switched the wizards back to the bullets, I don't see how anyone could get upset.
