I used to take runs without my poles all the time and just leave them on the racks at the bottom of the hill. One day while I was riding up the lift I spotted some guy standing at the top of the park and thought he had the same poles as me. As I got closer I noticed the poles were way too short for him, I'm like 5'7" and he was like 6 something. Then I noticed a bunch of spy stickers I put on my poles and knew that they were without a doubt my poles. All I had to do was yell "Hey man do you mind putting my poles back at the bottom when your done with them?" The look on the guys face was priceless and heard him awkwardly say "oh, uhh yeah sure".
Honestly, I didn't care that he was going to steal them. It's pretty low to steal from a fellow skier, but my friend with me thought it was hilarious and the story is worth more than the poles anyways.
