Macaws are cool as fuck. Until they shit on every square inch of your house and scream throughout the night. My buddy has one and we all wanted to strangle it
We took in my grandads african grey after he died. The Henry, the parrot, was 43 when he died and it was really sad cause he spoke in the same english accent my grandad did so it was like he died twice.
I actually happen to be a blue-fronted amazon so if you wouldn't mind just giving me your address I'll try to get there as quick as possible so we can start this beautiful relationship asap.
When hes tired he says (in swedish of course) "nighty nighty Castor is going to bed"
When mom is making dinner and he sees that we're setting the table he says "dinner is readyyyyyy" and usually call our names (my dad, me or my sister)
when someone comes home he says "helloooo who came home?"
when the phone rings he also says "hellooo" and when talking on the phone he keeps immitating us, you know, the sounds you make when you're on the phone ("ooh really?" "ah-haaa" and stuff like that)
When we leave the house he says "bye byee see you later"
When he sees something he really wants to eat (like fruit) he goes "mmmm thats good" or "taste it"
we havent taught him anything actually! Its like talking to a baby or a small child, if you always repeat the same words and phrases for the same events they learn to associate it.
I've been trying to teach him to say "Yeezy taught me" but he doesnt seem to be a Kanye West fan since he just gives me this "bitch u dumb" look everytime I say it.
Though, we have taught him how to whistle the Bridge on the River Kwai march, and the Good, Bad and the Ugly theme
Thats awesome! My dads friend has a 25 year old parrot that greets you by saying, "Good evening Dumbshits!"
Pretty funny. But i do feel bad that hes been in that cage for 25 years. He just goes in circles and circles up the side of his cage, across the top, and back down to start over again.
Is your parrot mostly out of his cage? Does he roam around the house much?
I really want to get a parrot when I'm older but I don't want to leave a tropical bird in a cage for 30 years. I'd want one that can roam and have fun and shit.
Hahaha! I kind of wish mine would curse, its somewhat of a miracle that he doesnt seeing that my family might as well could be pirates.
He likes to be in his cage, but he prefers to be outside and chill on chairs and stuff. As soon as we dont watch him he climbs down on the floor though, and goes out on his own adventures in the house
I'd definitely agree on that its animal cruelty to never release them out of their cages, birds arent meant to be stuck behind bars and sit still all day.
Every reply makes me want a parrot more and more! How old was he when you got him? Did he bite a lot when he was younger and/or what was the hardest part about raising him?
He was actually the last one of his siblings out of the nest, so he spent the most time with his parents before we bought him. He was about 6 months old when we picked him up, most parrots you buy are younger than that. Castor had also been with his parents the entire time and not separated from them as soon as possible to be used to humans (fed by humans instead of his own kin). This lead to that hes not as keen on cuddling and doesnt like to be touched by us as much as other parrots who are exposed to humans early are. Hes been kind of hard to raise because of this (plus parrots are super stubborn too and love to fuck around with you), but he doesnt bite that much, only when he feels we're invading his personal space or when he gets angry over something.
The positive side about him not being fed by humans too early is that hes not as needy and clingy. Some birds cant handle being alone all day and get depressed because they crave company. Castor have no problem with being alone during the day when we're at school/work (but yeah, of course he prefers the weekends when everyone are home).
depends what kind of dog i guess, i babysat my friends parrot for two weeks when he was gone during the summer. and my bigass black lab and the parrot were best buddies.
I suggest buying bbc life of birds. We used to binge smoke weed getting high as fuck watching its 9 hours of footage on 3 dvds in college. One of the best things to watch stoned i shit you nicht
We keep our dogs separate from the parrots for the most part... Ya never know how they're gonna react if the parrots freak out and fly about. Natural instincts of predators n all
An african grey bit all the way through the end knuckle on my middle finger while I was taking a drunken piss at my friends house. It was sitting on a perch in the shower.
