Don't understand gambilng

Went to the casino for the first time last weekend. Really didn't have that much fun. I can see how these places make so much money, so many suckers there trying to go "big". Chanes of winning are pretty low. I was brought up on a saving mindset. I just don't see how my friends can go to the casino spend $100 having "fun" literally throwing money onto a table. The only plus is hte free drinks after a while.

I ended up spending $40, won 25. Cashed out and bought a couple drinks and chilled with some girls had a great time watching my friends waste money.

Casinos are for stupid people who love bright lights and clangy noises, and the flesh coated razor blades that make a living off of them.  If you aren't going to get paid off of idiots at the poker tables, you're probably getting worked over. 

If I go to a casino, it's for someone's bachelor party or something.  I hate casinos, and work way too hard for my money to give it to some indian, I'd rather buy something for myself.  Thank God for the top notch people watching though.

funny this thread just popped up. fuck casinos. I went to one last night for the 2nd time ever and yup, just like expected, huge waste in cash. I only lost $70 but it still sucked. My friend on the other hand ended up losing $1600 on blackjack. Then on the drive home this morning we rolled the last of our nugget up into a blunt and my friend missed an exit, made an illegal U-turn at one of those emergency only u-turns. There was only two other vehicles on the road and one of the happened to be an unmarked sedan state trooper even with regular plates. He pulled us over almost instantly, but I was able to ditch the blunt out the window. $170 U-turn ticket. Luckily my friend has a very high paying job so all the money he spent plus the ticket didn't bother him as he brought all the money with him in cash to the casino and didn't allow himself to withdraw any. I wish I could laugh of almost $1800... shit. I can't see myself going to the casino again anytime soon.

I could never throw down a bunch of money on roll or slots, but I enjoy playing poker with my friends. We usually just do 5 or 10 dollar buy ins and play a few games one or two nights a week.

it was also really sad seeing some of the people there putting so much cash down, losing it, running to the atm to get more, and losing it all again. over, and over, and over. "i'm bound to win big this time!"

Personally I like to go to a casino because I enjoy playing poker. It's not throwing money at the table if you know what you are doing, sure you can lose money, but you cant win what you don't put in the middle.

That's toally different IMO and really the only thing to do if you're going besides MAYBE blackjack. 

Everything else at the casino is a joke, and a great way to awaste a shitload of money IMO.

My grandma loves them. She's always making day trips where she lives in Palm Springs, CA to casinos all the time. Does pretty good, too. She makes a couple hundred every time she goes.

yeah, i especially don't understand gambling addiction. that shit doesn't make any fucking sense to me.

casinos fucking suck. often times it seems that there are so many people there dumping money in to machines/on to tables when they clearly should be using the money for other things. like a dentist for example.

There's a reason why casinos claim they are selling "entertainment." You could spend more time or money going to watch your favorite sports team. Just because you don't like going to the casino doesn't mean other people don't.

For instance, you couldn't pay me $200 to go watch a figure skating competition but my mom will pay that to sit front row.

I look at it this way. If a movie costs about 10 dollars and lasts for two hours then if I expect to go to a casino and loose 10 bucks every hour and have fun while doing it then it is about the same amount of entertainment for the same price as a movie. I never go in expecting to come out with more money. I expect to pay for the fun I am having.

there are other ways to have fun at casinos though. My local casino was about 5 minutes from my house so I used to go for all the promotional events. They used to have "pull tab mania" where you would join their free club thing and they would give you ten free pull tabs on tuesday nights. I would go in and get my free pull tabs and usually win about $2. high was $6. but tuesday was also their $1 bowling night. so If I went in with friends and we all got our pull tabs we could go play a game of bowling for basically free. and if we won more money from the pull tabs it was a bonus.

Also playing black jack can be a lot of fun if you get the right dealer. they're not aloud to coach you but they can tell you a few things and they are helpful and fun you can sit there for a few hours, break even and have a blast.

Please copy and paste the exact spot in my post where I said it was the casinos fault. My friend is very very wealthy and the money was not of any concern of his - he does it for the entertainment value. But yes, he is an idiot with horrible business sense that why he has shit loads more money than you.

Casino's were made to profit money. They wouldn't make a casino is they would lose money so there obviously is no point to think you are gonna win. It' still fun for me and my bro's to catch a movie and gamble some bucks. Try to land big so we can splurge on some hookers or maybe ice cream for dessert

He was saying that the U-turn shit was irrelevant to the casino aspect of the story.

I like going to play 1-2 NL against the fish on busy nights. It's pretty easy to make money off them. Then again, I'm going for the game, not for the gamble.

I'll typically use a little of the profit from that on black jack; always lose but I like the experience. That's what you pay for at the casino, the experience. Losing money is a risk that many people can understand and are willing to embrace; I think that's why it thrills people. Those same people don't understand other risks, like freeskiing, perhaps, but spending money is familiar and they're willing to embrace that.

That being said there are plenty of people that go to casinos and don't lose huge chunks of money and just go there to spend a few bucks and enjoy themselves for the day...gambling or hitting up casinos for entertainment purposes isn't a bad thing

I agree it doesn't tie in 100% with gambling, I simply felt like sharing it as it all happened with part of my casino adventure.

If he was referring to the U-turn, than why did he say it is the casino's fault he is an idiot? Not once did I ever blame anyone or say my friend didn't take responsibility for his actions. He came with money, spent it. He broke the law, got a ticket. I'm failing to see where I ever said anything was unjust, unfair, or blamed anyone. But leave it to NS to twist words and construe every post in an attempt to feel superior and inflate that ego a few more notches.

gambling is great IF you look at it as a form of entertainment.
you think the people in there are idiots for spending $100 for a chance at nothing, which is your perspective.

i think people that go out for fancy dinner and spend $100 are idiots. why would you spend $100 at a restaurant when you can make it at home for a fraction of the cost?

gambling has such a negative connection because, like anything else, if it is abused it can be seriously unhealthy.

but for the magority of us, its just a source of fun, and were not harming anyone including you.

Well I think he's making reference to the fact that this is a thread about casinos sucking but you're talking about something irrelevant to seemingly back up your reasoning behind why you don't like the casino.

My friends and I don't play roulette, but we'd watch and make side bets (typically for who would have to buy food on the way home).

Gambling is fun as fuck. Not that slot ish but blackjack so addicting, never been to a casino tho caus I just turned 18. But getting drunk with your best bros hitting up the casino and then raging doesnt seem like that bad of a night.

It's a thrill/rush. For me, it's really no different than other forms of entertainment. I go most Saturday nights to the Casino when I'm hammered and bars are closing up. I don't go in with the believe that I'm going to hit the jackpot and makes thousands, I go in with the intention that I'm going to have fun; winning money is just a bonus.

it's all about setting a limit. I don't do casinos often (read:ever) but on the very rare occasion, I'll set aside like say, $20 and that's it. If I win more, great, I walk away with more money. If I lose, I view it as having paid $20 to have a fun night out with my friends.

just currious, how often do you win? and what do you play?

I used to do this with $50, which was usually the table's minimum buy in. I lost probably 1 out of 4 times I played NL Hold Em... and it was because I sat with too little and was unable to play with the guys with the big stacks on the big hands. Once I started sitting with $200 I was making money. Now I win pretty regularly if I play smart and get out when I'm up no matter how early or late into the night I am.

I sit with $200 and am only willing to lose about $75-$50.

As someone who doesn't have an addictive personality/is generally rational, I think gambling addiction is pretty interesting. It's crazy how you can become delusional and how casinos can prey on that delusion/vulnerability.

you have to realize that a lot of people don't care if they lose the money. I will almost never cash out. I'm there to have a good time and have set a certain amount of money that I don't mind losing for a little bit of fun. I got up to $100 off of 20 last time I was in vegas and had to get ready to go out so I just threw it into a $100 spin machine and lost it all on one turn. If I would have won, great, but I was really just trying to have fun and that was the extent of it. I wasn't trying to make money, I wasn't expecting to make money, so I didn't really care. Gambling is fun to me, its kinda like deep sea fishing, you never know what you're gonna hit. If you do hit awesome, but really I'm just there for the experience.

I love Casinos. I live in them when in the Tahoe area for skiing. WOuld actually probably reside in Reno/Tahoe full time if it wasn't for the fact that I love the casinos so much and a house or apartment would seem like a waste since you get rooms so cheap in the casinos.

But I never play slots, rarely play blackjack, and my serious gambling is on football and college hoops. So I more enjoy casinos for the ambiance and the buzz from all the people and machines and stuff.

I gambled a bit in Bozeman right after I turned 18, it was fun getting free food, losing $5 and making $6 off the money i lost and the two dollars i found. But absolutely pointless.

have only been to a casino once and it was a blast. free drinks, good time as long as like others have said you set a limit. i gamble a couple times a week though at local poker games and shit and that is an awesome time. a lot of times if your playing with inexperienced people its not even that a high of a risk.

I've made over a grand in the past year playing poker. Most of the money was won just playing with friends at a house or whatever though. I don't really like casino's but I'll go the odd time a year for a few hours.

I don't understand how people can sit at a slot machine for hours pumping money into it. Makes me wonder what their life is like overall which makes me feel sad for them.

The only thing I play in a casino is roulette, and even then I only play the outside of the table (amazing odds). I rarely walk away with less money than I came with, all while getting free drinks on the side.

Yea, buying in small in poker is the dumbest shit. I used to to do that, as well, thinking I was losing less, but of course you lose more. Of course when you had something, you couldn't get a big pot your way.

I still enjoy seeing old guys buy in like 40-60, bust, then repeat, and go on tilt. But they kind of ruin the action in the game, so fuck em.

But OP, play some poker, win a few big pots with some intense action, and you'll see why it's easy to keep playing.

Table games suck. At least in poker, you can win with jack shit.
