Terrain park trends

seems like every park these days has a close out and a bunch of the fat metal tube rails

anyone else noticing any trends?

Strongly dislike close out rails. Also, Brighton made tube rails popular, yet somehow they still are super sticky about half the time.

Definitely closeouts and stair sets.. My local hills both recently got some really gnarly donkey dicks..

Down flat downs are everywhere,  also some sort of up flat down feature is a popular one.

Tubes are definitely the funnest type of rails, but i also like something techy like a quad kink or a S rail. Just getting to the end of those things brings satisfaction, and a whole day can be made if you get a trick on it.

The first flat one was super sticky. Even the guys from the Windells camp were telling their kids to skip it because it was sticky and hanging people up. Seems every time the humidity is high (like today), the first one gets sticky.

And I agree. That ledge-wall thing is retarded. The up tube was my favorite in the line.

My terrain park actually has 2 closeouts one consisting of rails and the other is a box to sideways propane tank to rail. They both suck.

My terrain park has a straight rail, a short green tube, a straight rail that has been bent into a curved rail ta one half (laying beside the lift that has still not been set up), a sticky up rail that drops off at the end that has is supported in the middle by an unattached peice of wood and the df box is laying on its side at the bottom for some reason. On one side of a tow rope ther is a t rail, a 5ft long box, and a quarter-assed jump.

To sum it up, quit complaining. It could be much worse.

Granite Peak just started incorporating closeouts this year, we got a flat box to up pole jam thing, this giant ass pyramid thing, and your basic dfd tube rail, dfd regular rail, then down rails and short tube, culverts and skinny boxes here and there. oh and a donkey dick and huge up flat elbow rail

and for jumps the biggest one is ~55ft which is a lot of fun then smaller jumps 35, 25, 15 in the main park.

And closeouts, elbows, pole jam variations are all in right now.

Closeouts are def the biggest trend for the current imo. Urban rails, lack of pipes, and fat tubes have been in for a while. And rails painted the same color is almost just standard, you can't even really call that a trend, it's just the way it is.

I think there's a focus on making shit that's fun to ride. A lot of parks are built by people who love to ski/ride and it translates into what gets built. Also from checking out each others setups, you get a lot of ideas of what's going on different places and what looks like fun. Park crew has to ride what they setup so if it's lame and boring then it's not very fun for them.

I've seen a lot more serious donkey dick rails this year, almost like a down to slightly up than a down to flat. I don't know how i feel about them.

God I was there that night. Fuck that, those jumps were on a stupid hill. Now we just have a shitty line of rails, and jumps are OUT OF THE QUESTION.

Well when you own a mountain or run a park you can change that.

It's like a brand. Some of the mountains you know where it is just from the rails. Also looks uniform instead of looking like they just stole a bunch of random rails and put them in everywhere.


And again, not really a trend, just the way things are and have been for years.

i hate pole jams. also have been noticing a lot of wallrides set up as a hip, so you land on the wallride stept style

Pole jams depending on the size and length are more of a board thing. The small steep ones in the flats don't do much for skiers.


They're easy to throw in and it's another fun little thing to hit so I'm not surprised they're everywhere.
