I have found it pretty hard to find even an 05 with under 60xxx miles for a reasonable price...but it is a very reliable and great car. also, sti swaps are relatively cheap and not to complicated. you would get a huge performance boost for a fraction of the price of an sti with a swap

i have a 02 wrx my buddy has the 04 02-07 is the same powerr technically i love mine the insurance is high but it goes i have such a good time playing with mine. /claim stock but lifted ive had mine going 102 on t dirt road cornering at 55. not to say i haven't fucked up. to dodge insurance try to find a swapped engine into something else. like i literally cant wait till i fuck up and put my front end into a tree so i can put the motor into a forester or something. bottom line subarus go good in snow im do 80 on the highway in 2 inches of snow no problem. buy one u will love it sir

hey man if ur buying a subaru you should look in to what has and hasent been done according to the miles. i bought a legacy gt from a friend and it had 82,000 miles on it. around 80-100xxx cars need some routine maitnance done. most subarus need the headgasket timing belt and waterpump replaced around 80k. i did mine right after i bought the car and should be fine untill i have 170k.

if you drive the car with a blowen headgasket it can ruin your engin. so this is something to look in to. also ull probaly need to replace the struts and sway bushings depending on where you live. im in vermont and the mudseason pothole time destroys cars.

finialy you should makesure to check all under and around for rust holes and spots. subaru metal is knowen for rusting like toyota trucks. i my self have to replace my front subframe this summer bc of a rust hole.

Regardless of the car, a manual trans will get you better gas mileage so long as you dont rip on it all the time

reliability is good, gas mileage is bad (plus you have to use premium high octane fuel)

As others have said, buying a used wrx is a risky move. Buttttt if something major does break that give you an excuse/incentive/reason to beef up that component. Buying a non-turbo subaru and expecting it to be any fun to drive on the streets would be a mistake.

good luck finding a nice used sti that hasn't been modded to shit and back, and driven the hell out of. if you do man, fucking awesome ! find of a lifetime if ya ask me, those are my fav years for sure. i own and drive two trucks for the majority of my driving ( and my work as i live in montana and have to tow and haul quite often ) but i do own a 2002 subarus outback LL bean edition with the H6 3.0 liter engine, the biggest they offered in outbacks up till 2002 ( last year of that model ) and i have to say its a peppy lil guy for sures. and real good of the beaten path if you have good tires, that being said, i own two american trucks, a cummins diesel and a dodge dakota v8, and to be honest ive had my subaru in the shop almost twice as much as both my trucks combined. its a great car and has lots of pros ( and a few cons ) but even with alll the money i spend on maintenance , needed or not , sometimes i just throw in a few hundred for preventative maintenance if i have the cash etc. one downside of the 2002 outbacks that came with the big engine ( h6 3.0 ) , is one the brakes, they are the same size as all the other models and with the engine weighing about 400 pounds more than the 4 banger etc ive had to do the brakes pads and rotors so many times, but i guess its worth it for that extra power, especially when you get off the beaten path a bit. but like i said, i usually take my trucks of the beaten path more than my ll bean suburu . one other main downside about the 2002 outbacks that came with the big v6 is that they only take 91 octane or better fuel. your check engine light will come on and you will ruin your o2 sensors if you put in anything lower grade. that being said, thats my biggest complaint with the ll bean edition with the h6 3.0. to be honest if you consider the price of fuel around the country right now, ( diesel and gas ) , i basically get the same mileage in town in my suby as i do in my 4x4 dodge dakota with the 5.2 v8 and 5 spd manual. i do have a knn cold air and dual exhaust so that helps , but ya in town theres not that big of a difference when you buying 91. highway different story. kinda the same with my cummins. i have a 2003 2500 heavy duty dodge cummins H.O. with the 6 spd manual tranny. cat delete, exhaust , intake , etc. just mileage mods on her, and i get 22.5 on the highway going 65 and i get 17 -19 in town on average. all hand calculated of course. so basically what im saying is good luck man, ! if you find that sti that is siiiick. and if not do some research on some diff models and years and know exactly what you getting yourself into. good luck buddy. theres alot to learn about those cars if ya have the time .

I'll be honest and say im Subaru bias, but I feel it for good reason. Number one safety, subarus are super safe! They are very reliable cars and known for their awesome AWD systems, a true blast in the snow... I'm super subaru, so my first car was a 2003 outback wagon I loved her so fuckin much. I cried so hard after I escaped from my car that I lost control coming around wet  corning and went into a lake. Yes I totaled my subaru at 5am coming home, Sober just tired in shitting driving conditions on a narrow road that people are known to crash on (I didn't know that at the time).

Anyways after nearly dying, I have to thank my subaru honestly... because the way she held up, I was left completely unscratched just wet and heart broken that I drowned my car :(I'll attach a link below to my crash I made breaking news I later found out... But now I'm out car shopping again this time I got my eye out for a 2005-2007 legacy GT, its like the grown up tuned down STI to me. So I feel I can keep her all through college and begin a family and still have her, aka I don't need to sell the "sports" car because of family because the Legacy doubles as both with a tune and some mods hah.
