Zero dark thirty was one of the worst movies I have ever seen

Doesn't appeal much to me from what I've heard. Guess I won't watch it.

ah, here's a legitimate and well thought out opinion that directly relates to zero dark thirty.

OP thinks Transformers is the height of movie making prowess.

Thought the movie was very good. Beginning really makes you feel how far we were from catching Osama, and how devastating the bomb attacks were. Overall thought it was well directed and a good depiction (good as it can be) of the process of getting bin Laden.

It was really a great movie, it showed a different viewpoint, from the intel side, a good set of actors, a solid plot, and probably the most tactical and on-spot action scene in the last couple of years, if not ever perhaps.

Outside of the biased and liberal and actress wasn't hot enough I agree. I feel like if given the task of making a movie about the hunting and killing of the most infamous terrorist/criminal of the past decade anyone with any sort of creativity could make a more exciting movie. I'm not saying the movie was terrible, but with such a mother-load of controversial, intense, and dramatic material at your disposal I expected a much better movie from a former oscar winning director.

Just because it wasn't off the wall with terrorist hunting throughout it doesn't mean it was a bad movie in my opinion. I think what they used was actually really enlightening, it made me think heavily about how they got their information and where it lead them to in the long run (and how accurate that information's going to be after throwing a guy in a box after he's shit himself).

Did the bin laden character look realistic at least?

Havent seen it, i was just saying it wouldnt surprise me if it was biased liberally, judging by how liberal hollywood/actors are. Not saying it is or isnt.

i haven't watched it yet so i can't really say anything about it. all i know is that the premise doesn't really appeal to me specifically but it did pretty great at the golden globes so i'll have to check it out

Read manhunt before you see zero dark thirty. Manhunt is the story of the Ten year US search for Bin Laren, written by a journalist and CIA insider. The movie is a hollywoodized version of that.

They definitely did a decent job of portraying the disconnect between Washington's public agenda and the CIA's true tactics and goals. Maybe it was because i had just finished up a ten page semester paper on the CIA's use of drones in Pakistan as a form of leadership decapitation in terrorist groups no more than two weeks before seeing the movie, but the disconnect certainly was not mind-blowing for me and I'm hoping will not be for many others in the American public or else I'd be seriously depressed at how misinformed our country is.

As far as the torture aspect, call me the devils advocate, but it didn't stir up a lot of emotions for me. I think this happened for two reasons. One, talking to the people who had seen the movie before me I went in with the mindset that the torture scenes were very graphic/intense and therefore relatively hard to watch/heart wrenching (not sure if heart wrenching is the word I'm looking for, but I hope you get the idea) as you'd expect from a psychological thriller about a military who is known for their cruel tactics towards alleged terrorists and I didn't really get that feeling. Which brings me to my second point. The majority of the torture scenes were focused around a man who apparently shelled out 5,000$ for the plane that hit the towers which he never denies doing (I'm not 100% on this, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Although torture is obviously never the first choice when attempting to retract information from someone I think with stakes as high as they were in the situation I don't think it's entirely morally corrupt, especially when it's on someone who knowingly supported a cause that killed thousands of innocent people for no reason. Which is why I kind of looked at the torture scenes as something that had to be done instead of an appalling injustice that stirred something inside of me. Which does nothing to counter your point that peoples information could be rather shaky after being thrown in a box after shitting himself, that's just the nature of torture I suppose and I'll leave those logistics up to badass motherfuckers with ice in their veins (aka the dude who dropped the wu-tang reference((aka best character/part of the movie))).

So really after writing all those ranty run on sentences I'm realizing it deserves more credit than I originally gave it considering it definitely got me thinking about important issues in our society, but I'll still stand by thinking it definitely could have been done better. Especially considering any movie on this material should raise all these same questions if not more.

I won't go as far as saying the "worst movie I've ever seen," but I completely agree that it was a let down. I didn't go in expecting explosions nonstop but they probably could've cut out about an hour of meaningless scenes. Not my favorite movie I've seen recently that's for sure.

I thought the south park depiction was more exciting

i actually enjoyed it.  i dont mind realism and actually prefer a movie that isnt nonstop action and actually has some thought to it. 

and btw.  she was decent looking in the movie, but look her up in the golden globes.  she is looking damn good in that blue dress

i can understand why you'd think that but actually, the dude who popped osama in real life said on 60 minutes that when it went down for real, the dude who shot osama's...son (? i think) in the hallway really did coax him out by whispering his name like that. i thought it was odd too but yeah idk that supposedly actually happened

but oh yeah, the movie. id love to have whatever youre smoking, OP, that made you think it's too "liberal" but i did have a couple complaints. i thought it was a dece movie (saw most of it at least) but 1) im sure the seals were about 100% more ice cold during that operation than they were in the movie ("you realize what you just did?" uh yeah he just blasted OBL..) and 2) id bet my life that that woman did not cry that night. whoever that woman is in real life probably has ice in her veins and idk it just seemed like a silly sexist ending to have her crying in the end. i liked what someone in this thread said about that part being about the sudden end to the episode and not getting the expected satisfaction out of it but still, if that character was a guy you can bet your ass they wouldnt have had him cry

oh and sorry for triple post but seeing the dude who plays andy on parks and rec playing a navy seal took a second to get used to haha
