Saw the photos. Fucking sick. Riga is in Latvia.

Straight bullshit that youngschoolers comes in and gets a million likes and the Riga photos go unnoticed.

I'm going to disagree here.


Youngschoolers had 10 likes while it was the first photo uploaded. That doesn't happen naturally. We've talked about up voting before. If a photo doesn't go 9-0 before it gets off the first page of photos, it's lost and gone forever. If a photo goes 9-0, then it gets on the hot page and then has the opportunity to get millions of likes. Great photos fall in the shadows every day because people post crap or people rely on thir many friends. Talent doesn't just stand up alone. It seems to me like all of you need to make it big is 8 friends to like up your photos and then it is in someones face. If one or two people downvoted the Riga pics, most likely in hope their own pics or their friends pics would make it, they'd be lost and gone forever even at 8-1 or 9-2 if they didn't make it to the hot page.

I'm not a fan of his processing, but the one that's now the splash page photo does have nice framing. A step back would have been good so the left edge of the building wasn't cramped up against the side of the frame. But that's minor. It's still a sick shot, and that rail is huge.

I definitely agree, and I have thought about this for a while. It is way to easy for a great photo to be quickly drowned out by other media. I think the solution would be small upvote/downvote icons on the thumbnails on the homepage. These would cater to the average NSer like myself. I'm not a photographer, I don't know a ton about photography, but I can tell a good photo of skiing when I see one. Usually I'm not browsing NS for photos, but I'm all for giving upvotes where they are deserved. Sometimes I see a great photo, but I'm in a rush before class and I simply don't have time to go in and upvote every good photo I see, especially on a subpar internet connection. Here's an example of what I mean by mini upvote/downvotes on thumbnails.

The little blue boxes in the upper right of each thumbnail would be the +/- buttons. Obviously it would have to be reworked to fit the NS style, but you get the idea.

Latvia, surrounded bu Russia, Estonia and Lietuva.

Capital is Riga and it is a small country. Estonia, Latvia and Lietuva are also known as the Baltics.
We do not have great parks like Park City or bigass mountains, but we have lot of urban spots here.

I live in Estonia, maybay you know Kelly Sildaru, then you know Estonia.

Bishop, you're right. Not only is the skiing on some stept shit, every photo looks like it's staged in post-fallout Chernobyll, or 28 Days Later London. Seriously, these are hammers snapped after the apocalypse, and I'm fucking with it.

This kind of thing is what makes NS, and freeskiing in general, so great. Not just the fact that you have pro-level urban shots in a country that probably has less skiable terrain than some North American resorts, but that there's an outlet to increase exposure level exponentially overnight. Cool.
