NYC new years...is the train free?

I heard the metro north is freee on new years but this sounds pretty rediculous to me since its usually 20 bucks to go in round trip. Anyone know for sure if it is free? Dont want to get on the train tonight and have to pay the stupid on the train prices for the tickets
