Replying to Follow Cam Techniques/Tips?

So I have been searching on here and a bit on google and couldnt find much on how to follow cam and what are some good tips and techniques when doing it.

I know what equipment you should use but what are like good techniques for doing it? do you wanna be really close the subject or far away or like mid-way? also should you do some shots going on the side of them or maybe pass em or is better to just stay behind?

Sorry im new to filming while skiing and wanted to try some follow cams with my friends so i know prob all these questions are dumb!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
