Yeah but that isn't "universal" or in the ski. Think about it if it was in the ski it would put you closer to the ski and snow and you could use any binding you want, depending on which companies would go for it. It would be sweet and take away the need for binding to have any sort of adjustment forwards/ backwards in the heel at all therefore redesigning the bindings to be closer to the ski. I personally think this is a great idea. Have one or two tracks the range from toe at centre to like 6-7 cm back from the toe for lets say a 29 boot so most people will have the option to be that far back. Also change the length of track for the length of ski because typically taller people have bigger feet and vice versa.
Also it would end up making bindings lighter and might even be able to solve problems with rip outs, because I imagine a rip out on a track to be the worst possible thing ever there would have to be some sort of safety thing I imagine.
Resale values would increase because your skis will never have been drilled, but it's a pretty cool price to pay knowing that from there on a shop could never fully screw up a mount that wouldn't be a simple quick fix, hell shops could mount your bindings insanely fast and probably wouldn't have the crap waiting period.
