Parents buying things

So i ski for a freestyle skiing team that skis both days every weekend and has dryland during the week,due to my availibility no places will hire me for a job.
Im turning 16 soon and would like a vehicle but without my parents wont pay for one and i cant quit skiing. So i need ur opinion on how to approach them on this

I don't know man, I've balanced work and school since I was about 14. In college I agree you shouldn't have a job if you can avoid it, but highschool is a good thing.

just ask them, i'm sure your not going to be asking for a brand new porsche cayenne, a cheap car surely isn't that big a deal if your in a weekend skiing program, some of the stuff I've seen parents who have the money for things like that buy their kids some crazy shit.

i didnt buy my own car either. probably because it was worth $1200 5 years ago when my dad bought it off ebay then he just sort of handed it to me when he bought a couple new ones.

but hey, 275k miles and it's still going strong. fucking acura's are the shit. insurance is only about $130 and gas is another $300 a month, but aside from that, ac blows cold, has two sets of tires, no rust, ripped leather interior, and it gets allllll the bitches.

Im in the same boat as you dude. Im getting my liscense tomorrow, unlike the majority of my town, I have to buy by own car. I already bought my season pass, im going to my uncle this week and asking for a loan(3k) and set up a plan to pay him back because im getting a job now. So if you try to get a job and find a family member who will loan you some cash it would be your best bet than act like a spoiled kid who wants your parents to buy you a car.

Like everywhere? In Canada at least you need insurance to get plates and it's a big ticket if you don't have proof of insurance if you're pulled over.

Only had the car for 6 months then I rolled it like a motherfucker. I ended up paying $700 for the car $700 for insurance $500-$600 for firetrucks and $150 for the ambulance.

This, I've been busting up reading this thread. Fucking NS, bunch of skiers, act like they all grew up with the thug life and started slinging coke at age 10 and didn't take anything from their parents because once again they are so hard and moved out and quit highschool and worked 60 hours a week to ski. And that was all before they turned 16.

get a bike, srsly you will be in better shape, short rides take equal time, long ones maybe only 3 times as long, you are more attractive, you will save tons on gas and maintenance and initial cost, you will have panniers to have an extra seat for taking people places if that's a problem and... whoops you can't drive it in the winter BUT DEAL yo it'll be good k.

I managed to have about 10 different jobs in high school. All while playing varsity sports year round.

But its a different world now.

I can see this dilemma.

Oddly enough there were kids not like me who I remember having way more jobs than me up until 18/19. Used to be mad easy to get jobs 10 years ago as a teenager.

My high school construction job paid way more than any job I worked after college (sad but at least I didn't fucking cry about it and did something.) Not only that I remember the 30 year old crack head on the crew made about 25 an hour, and some guy who was 40 like my boss and was unemployed from his real job (unemployed respectable middle class adults were rare as fuckin dodo birds circa 2002) made fuckin 32 bucks an hour and left early 2 times a week to play the piano in some bar.

Different world. Good luck kids.

*all those jobs weren't at the same time of course. It was normal to quit something like working at an ice cream store for a rec department job, best buy, etc etc. Not to mention getting fired happened (even the fucking laziest mother fuckers I knew had about 7-8 jobs through that age which they couldn't hold and those are the kind of kids who went to juvy.)

People are willing to work for anything these days. Shit is tough. Hang in there and don't fuck around when money is on the line be about your paper.

Lure your mother in the basement, use an excuse as "There's a leak" when she goes down the stairs, hit her in the back of the head with a blunt object. Then bound, gag and blindfold her. Lock the basement door, collect and hide all the keys towards the basement.

Now write a letter on an old typewriter (for spooky effect) about how you kidnapped your mom and demand 100.000 dollars, don't sign it of course. Fix it to the front door with a knife. Pretend to go to school, then come home just a minute after your dad. First instinct of him would be to call the police, stress him that he shouldn't, if he does proceed to call the police, he doesn't care about your mom and obviously has a mistress he loves so much more, with that information you can blackmail him but that's for another time.

In your letter the cash drop-off point should be somewhere close to home. Don't go there, go to the basement collect your mom and drug her on chloroform, then carry her with you (hence close to home) and bound her to a tree near the cash drop-off point. Wait until your father drops the cash then slice of the gag, by now she should be conscious again and screaming. Your dad will hear this and come after her. He will be occupied with crying, hugging and attempting to untie her knots.

This is your moment to grab the cash, put it in one of those 24/hr luggage lockers near you. Go home quickly. And celebrate the reunion of your family. Then a couple of weeks later proclaim you have won a price for about the same amount as the vehicle which you so desire, drop the rest of the cash in an offshore internet only savings account.

It's quick and easy really.

pretty sure in alberta it's required by law.

besides...man i didn't even get a cell phone until I was 16/17. I couldn't even have imagined my parents giving me a car, although they also wouldn't let me actually drive until I got my full licence. the only reason I have a car now Is because both my parents are retired now and they really have no need for a second car. It's legally my mums car but she never uses it so it's kind of just become mine.

True. On the other hands some people worked since they were kid (omg child labor) and then had official jobs since they were 14.

I worked at gold course and for different neighbors when I was younger. Then first job on the books was working at the mountain teaching.

My problem was more with OP,s I can't get a job to buy anything. He's 16 maybe it's different where he is idk. I know in the US you can officially get a job working when you're 14.

One of my friends parents are doing pretty well. He worked his ass off at summer jobs since he was 14. Bought a $2000 camera and other shit himself by the time he was 16.


Maybe your parents will get you a car maybe not. But if you wanted to find work you could. Maybe not doing the job you want, but there are jobs out there.


Really not that hard to save some money then. What are your expenses? You don't pay rent, for food, there are a lot of things that don't cost you anything. Getting a job at that time is awesome. It's like pure profit. Want to save a couple grand? It's easy. Just work a lot and don't spend it all on candy.

Easy.

Just get rides from friends and parents. Not as glamorous, no doubt, but it works. Realize cars are a money pit. Earn your shit.

You dont need a car. And I'm sure you'll be able to get a job somewhere. Just saying it might be low paying but you're 16 and most likely have no work experience so you'll work at a grocery store stocking or something
