[Monk's]
George: You know, I think I could have played with dolls if their were dolls in the house. It seems like fun to me. It doesn't seem like a gender thing. I think I would like to play with dolls. What's so terrible?
Julie: Ha. So, George, I was talking to Elaine before.
George: A ha! We're just friends.
Julie: Yes, well anyway, she said something that was kind of intriguing.
George: Oh, share.
Julie: Well, when I came over to the table she mentioned something about how she better hurry up and leave or you'd make her buy lunch to make up for the one you bought yesterday.
George: Ha, ha ha uh, I'm not following that.
Julie: Well, my question is, How could Elaine be under the impression that you bought the big salad, when I was the one who handed it to her?
George: Well, she probably just assumed.
Julie: Um, did she?
George: . . .uh, . . . wait a second. Are you suggesting that I went out of my way to tell Elaine that even though you handed her the big salad, that it came from me?
Julie: That's what I'm suggesting.
George: . . . WELL IT WAS A BIG SALAD. AND WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS, HOW DOES A PERSON WHO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BIG SALAD CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT SALAD AND ACCEPT THE THANK YOU UNDER FALSE PRETENSES - AH - AH?
Julie: George, all I did was hand someone a bag.

On December 16, 1773 the Boston Tea Party occurred.
In 1774 Parliament passed a series of acts designed to chastise Boston in particular. Branded in America as the “massacre of liberty”. The most drastic was the Boston Port Act which closed the port until damages were paid. Other “intolerable acts” included the taking away of many colonial rights and restrictions on the town meetings. Included the Quartering Act which gave local authorities the power to lodge British soldiers anywhere
The Quebec act was passed in 1774 and it guaranteed their Catholic religion, and their old customs. Also the boundaries of Quebec now stretched to the Ohio river.
The First Continental Congress was summoned in 1774, to meet in Philadelphia to consider ways to address the colonial grievances. All but Georgia were represented. Each colony sent 50 men. It lasted for 7 weeks (September 5 to October 26).
John Adams was very important here. In all, they came up with a Declaration of Rights, as well as appeals to other British American colonies, to the kind, and to the British people. The most important action was the creation of The Association. It called for a complete boycott of British goods.
On April 19, 1775 a troop of British soldiers was sent to Lexington and Concord to seize gunpowder and take down The Association leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The “minute men” did not disperse quickly enough and shots were fired. By the end, there were 300 casualties and 70 killed but the British won.
England had higher population, wealth, a better navy, and a better trained army, but Ireland was ready to rebel and took many troops to control. France was waiting for revenge and the British army did not have its best men, poor food supply, and bad treatment of soldiers. There was a delay of commands because of the distance. There was also no central city to strike at.
American advantages included: great leadership, International aid from France, they were self-sustaining. Disadvantages were: poor organization, there was jealousy between colonies, economic difficulties.
Baron von Steuben was a German colonial drillmaster, known for his organizational genius.
American profiteers hurt the American because they put profit before patriotism. They sold commonly to the British because they could supply gold. They caused prices to sky-rocket.
