Remember, the most important thing is that we are giving you the ability to decide what goes up there. Some categories of non-skiing stuff can't make it to the top right now, but we can work with that in the future.

Usage of it had dropped so far, almost nobody was sticking around and actually looking at it.

I was apprehensive.. But once I customized the front page it made sense. Everything loads a bit slower/weirder but I'm sure that'll be smoothed out..

Yeah, there's going to be some tweaking and adjusting that happens as we see how much load this thing takes. There's solid caching so after you've loaded it a few times it should get better.

We have some really good ideas for performance increasing though, so we should be able to get it slick as snot within a short timeframe.

amazing.

the only big thing I can see improving on is this: when you click on a picture on the home page instead of redirecting to the picture page, have it stay on the homepage but have the picture open as a popup (where the background darkens out) so you simply click 'close' and you're back on the home page.

We thought of this, believe me.

TBH the real reason we didn't do this, is making that decision changes the fundamental core systems of Newschoolers. Its something that we could look at in the future, but for the time being we wanted to keep the new homepage as a portal into the normal NS experience.

That is why we made this decision, and at least until we have time to sit down and think through the rest of the site flow, we're sticking with it.

fuck the searchbar i never use it. idk if this is possible talkin out my ass now, but if you could link/use a google searchbar with "site:newschoolers.com:" already set onto it that would be the dankles. thats what i usually end up doing when im trying to find something on ns anyways.

i love love love the concept but there's just something about the layout that just doesn't look right to me. but good job guys. This is great. I love being able to see pictures and videos that otherwise I never would have found

I really like it! The filter makes it really easy if you want to only watch good edits or just read popular articles. I was kinda lost at first but im already getting used to it and im liking it.

Mobile is dope, not sure if i'm super crazy on the browser display. Probably will just take some getting used to.

Overall the site seems a little slower and less responsive.

When viewing someone elses profile on mobile rather than the options being just Info Threads and Friends, I would also be able to look at their feedback and media.

Yupp. Like I'm the type of person who usually likes and supports change. Like with Facebook I always liked the changed and I liked timeline unlike most people. This I just think is clustered and dumb. If it's going to be like this it should at least be in categories.

Catagorize it into columns or something. Also it should save what you set your settings to. Having inch to set it every time is kind of annoying

this.. its like what happened with facebook, newsfeed is just a clusterfuck now.

its just like, videos articles pictures everywhere, you dont really know whats what.. its kind of a pain in the as to use the drop down menu to check and uncheck videos, popular, pictures or whatever.

maybe just have them as tabs somewhere on the side or on top, so you can just click "new videos" or "new pics" "new Articles" or something.

Philisophically I disagree.

First off, we gave the ability to sort by category, and save your layout. So if you want a specific category, its easy to get.

Second, of the absolute maximum importance to us - we did not want one category or another to be able to permanently outrank another. There was absolutely no way to do this and not have everything shuffled together.

Our main goal was to create a unified promotional engine for the content creators of Newschoolers, and we no longer wanted to favor one over the other. Henceforth, it is all mixed together.

I'd also ask - did you stare at the homepage all day before? Was it glorious perfection?

Or do you find yourself looking more specifically at sections of the site?

We didn't touch things like top rated photos, top rated videos or latest forum threads. These were the most popular pages on the site.

Mobile is amazing. And the home page is growing on me. It is cool to go to top rated all time and see everything starting to work. How to get to chads, dale's edits, all the RIP news stories are at the top. This new idea works!

We're actually still tuning this. We got it pretty close, but at a certain point needed live data to actually make sure we did it right.

Currently it is a modified version of Top Rated, which also takes into account the time expiry since posted.

We've got a brand new formula in testing though, which when we get it right is going to be so much better. It uses Newton's law of cooling.

I support this. I'm used to the old homepage so I'm pushed towards saying that I liked that better but...you're right, I didn't "hang around" the homepage before. I like the rationale and the product of it. I think you hit this one right on, Bishop.

But you're right, you really have to look at the rationale behind WHY we did it. This was a massive fundamental strategical shift at the site, where we're promoting community-voted content.

As time progresses, and more gets uploaded it will make more and more sense.

What people haven't discovered yet, is adding remote linked news articles. That is going to be a huge game changer when it catches on.

I'd be interested to know what you liked better about the old homepage. I personally never used to use the homepage other than News and Video of the day. Everything else was just useless shit. Now everything takes ratings into consideration so if everyone thinks something sucks, it doesn't make it to the top. You can still browse Newschoolers the way you used to, the homepage just acts as a portal to everything

I really like actually, it's simple and shows what everyone is looking for (news, videos, pictures). The ONLY thing I'd like to see is the Authors of the content (writer of the news story, uploader of the video/picture) on the tile with the title. There are certain people who's content I always look at, and now it's harder to tell who wrote/uploaded what without having to look at EVERYTHING...I just feel like I'm gonna miss someones edit cause I didn't know it was theirs.

I have my front page set only to news, sorted by latest. The item in the top left corner (I'm guessing where the newest ones go, right now it's the boreal opening day) doesn't open to anything.. It's been going to a grey screen for the last 10 minutes or so..

The new mobile site is a much needed improvement. The only feature I have been wanting for a long time was the ability to see your recent messages. I saw that this was absent in NS 4.0, Is this something easy to put in, or would it be a harder feature to put in?

it doesnt seem like the top photos of all time are ordered correctly? for the first say 15 or so theyre but once you get down below that there are photos with a rank of 60ish farther down the list, with photos ranked in the 20s above them.

that layout is growing on me and i like how as you scroll down it loads up for you.
