Where the fuck is news? replacing news with this was a big mistake, it looks a lot cleaner and it's kinda cool, but it's nothing compared to news.

Just noticed new mobile site, OH MY GOD, having inbox and threads separate is perfect, but where's the search? and the bunch of links at the bottom seem like they're not supposed to be there? "grindmedia surfer magazine surfing magazine" etc

Yeah, the first time I saw that site I was impressed that they had basically had the same idea for the future of Newschoolers as we did.

Its very much borrowed from Pinterest, which made this type of layout extremely popular. Its a great way to get a bunch of content onto one spot.

Make sure you try browsing the site (both home page and forums) on mobile too. So much better!

Magnus, try making use of the filters if you want to only see news, or pictures, or videos etc. You can sort by Hot or Latest as well to really customize what you want to look at.


As far as the extra links in the footer. Newschoolers is part of a family of sites and publications, those are all our sister sites

Yeah does the news not come up on the front page? It should flow in with the rest of the stuff, unless you're trying to get more use of the news tab.

NS is now tumblr? It does look nice though. Gonna have to see everything that's new.

When news is really popular it goes right to the top. Try going into the 'news' header if you want to see a stream of latest news.

Also, you can add news articles yourself.

Obviously the top bars are very different because of the how much more NS has. But I still think the layout and whatnot of the homepage now looks alot like rejib. Not a good or bad thing, just something I noticed.

Go give some news that you think deserves to be at the top some upvotes.

If you don't like that there is a lack of news, write or share about something that is of so much interest that others will upvote.

Its more copied from Pinterest and Reddit if you're interested.

Like literally if I didn't trust the entire staff so much, I would have sworn that ReJib was an inside job. We've had this thing in the works for a super long time.

I even tried to reach out to them to ask nicely that they stop trying to fight NS head on.

I figured you guys had this in the works for a long time. I dont think they will last or gain the following/subscribers that NS has. I do like the idea for the new layout and upvotes push things to the top.

Will threads, videos, pictures, etc be able to be pushed?

Are you talking the search bar? As useless as it can be, it is still located in the left above the navigation bar. It is just a little smoother looking now.

Looks so much like tumblr, I'm falling in love with it. Only thing I would improve is how much empty space there is, I mean, the space between picture and picture is a little too much.

ur facebook told me to post here.....it looks like im the only one with a problem viewing the new ns? I deleted my caches and everything, but when I go into ANY forum, its all glitchy. The list of "online members" takes up the whole top page,(instead of being on the left) so to get to any of the threads I have to scroll through all of that, also its hard to read the trads because the list of online members goes through the left side of any forum/thread

I was bad and originally posted in ski gabber, so I'll copy and paste here....

I think it's awesome. For a second I was confused by it, but then I really really started to like it. To me, the skiing community is all about content, not just forum posts. For years, I personally never looked at the photo and video sections. Maybe I'm old, but I had better things to do than wade through a lot of crap. If I really wanted to see the best of the best content, I liked good content creators on Facebook and waited for it to show up in my feed. Even then, I felt like I was missing a lot.

Now I feel like I've got a great way to browse the best of NS. I'm already consuming a lot of content I would have otherwise missed. The guys are clearly being ambitious, staying ahead of the curve and I think it works. I'm excited about this change.

I like it, but I personally liked the last one best. This looks a lot like rejib, lets not associate NS with rejib. Jokes, but overall both look like really nice websites to me. Maybe go back to the old one with the 1,2,3,4, & etc. news feed box. I liked being able to read the headlines all in one instead of scrolling down.

Seriously, I'm currently using this on IE6, and if it works on this thing, I should be able to browse smoothly using nothing but a dented trash can lid and a discarded 9 volt battery.

(... IE6 is a terrible web browser errybody)

In all fairness, ReJib did a really good job of copying the fundamental core of Newschoolers, yet applying a very 2012 web-design feel to it.

They just didn't realize that we had the same vision for the future of NS as they did.

Hmmmm.... go into the settings on your phone and clear your browsers' cache. You might just have something stuck in there.

Making the site work for Mobile was a big reason for deciding to build the homepage the way we did.

eh.. i dont like it. i liked how simpler it was and how it was pretty much laid out like a newspaper.

now its a mess and cluttered for sake of looking new and artsy. i'd take the old NS back any day.

also, it loads slower..

i did just look at the new mobile version. which i do like. because its mobile.. you expect it to look all app like and a cluster fuck.

now my desktop looks the same which is dumb. but what are my comments gonna change? prolly nothing. so i'll stop now.

I do and don't like the desktop version.. I don't like how everythings kind of just floating there, looks a little unorganized. However I do like the variety of content, I may actually watch more videos and view more pictures now. I don't like how the titles are in white boxes overlaying the videos/pictures though, looks strange to me.

I bet you will adapt. Just like any major change, it is tough to see the big picture only upon initial visitation.

The main difference is that the best stuff will now rise to the top. That, above and beyond anything else will make a massive difference in how much one likes this layout.

Give it two weeks.

you're welcome to feel that way, but when I see a newspaper I pretty much see the most cluttered fuck-up of a news distribution medium.

The new homepage isn't for artsynes at all, it's entirely dedicated to functionally organizing things...the benefit of having this layout, and not a newspaper layout, is it's completely customizable as per the users interests and organizes content based on quality/relevance. the fact that you think it looks artsy as well probably means it will just grow on you with use. give it a week and see if you still feel that way

I'd like to emphasize how fucking great the front page looks, especially compared to that steaming pile of dog poo it used to be... sorry but it was kinda.. useless.
