A new ski game

Hello! I've been working on this as a little side project over the summer. It's way better if you have a controller but you can play with the keyboard if you don't have one. Try it, there are plenty of bugs!

is it worth getting a controller? and i haven't read through this thread but you can do five lincolns if you bomb it to the wall. game is so much fun i just wish at this point the spinning/flipping was easier to control and that you could tail/nose press rails

Most fun ski game ever. Period.

- When he skis switch and looks over left shoulder, he doesnt crouch when pressing UP ARROW.

- You can speed up and/or on boxes/rails with UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW.


Ideas:
- Sound (skiing, carving, popping, sliding, landing, falling)

- Huge kicker (JOI, WCS etc.)

- DFD hand-rail

- Quad kink

- Close-out rail

- C-box / C-rail

- S-box / S-rail

- Faster surface switch-ups (With skis closer together when 50-50'ing and switch 50-50'ing)

- Ability to load more pop/spin for ex. 360 swaps on flatboxes, by holding SPACE for longer time.

- Safety grab, leading safety grab and truckdriver grab on boxes/rails
- Method grab on keyboard (again)

- Crashing/falling

- Ability to take off skis and hike

With the current setup of the lincoln button on the controller, I like the keyboard better. You need to be able to slightly lincoln in both directions to make your corks work properly.

If you need feature Ideas, how about some tune rails or a close out or S- Rail. Also maybe a hip or quarterpipe.

Love the game, but it would be a lot more fun if it had multiplayer.  I know some of the other posts mentioned the idea before, but i am just trying to stress the importance of it =p.  You probably wouldn't even have to pay for the servers.  Just ask around on newschoolers and you will get tons of donations :)

Hey, you're talking about the triggers right? I know exactly how you feel about the lincolns. I remember I used to bug Gnarshmallow all the time about bringing back the old axis. I wasn't planning on having lincolns at first but my friend convinced me that it was a must. I figured that I could use the click on the left thumbstick to go into lincoln mode, that way you'd have all 3 axes on one thumbstick. I really don't want you guys to hate the way the controller is set up but let me just explain why I did it that way.

I always planned on using L2 and R2 to tweak grabs. I could also have mapped the grab tweaking to L1 and R1 and have the lincoln axis mapped to the triggers but I thought it would be awkward to have four fingers on the back at all times. Are there any games that you do that with? (I could also do the opposite and map the lincoln axis to L1 and R1 but then you wouldn't have the sensitivity which is the whole point of playing with the controller)

The driver for the PS3 controller that comes already installed on a Mac doesn't support trigger sensitivity which is retarded and there's no way of changing the settings. This could easily be fixed by having people install a different driver. I'm pretty sure Tattiebogle has a beta PS3 version. The thing is you wouldn't be able to just plug your controller in and play if you had a Mac and a PS3 controller

There's also the problem that the triggers are used for braking. So you're trying to slow down and hit a few bumps you might just start doing random lincolns.

Which is why there should just be button mapping in game ;)
That way everyone can set up their controller however they would like to.

I don't like that argument, on the keyboard if you want to go fast without jumping you press up, so if you are going fast and hit a bump you will start doing random fronts/ nose dive speed killers.

I think it should work with both analog sticks. Have the left one do fronts, backs, and left right spin while the right analog stick controls lincolns (l & r) and speed (up and down). or put all the flips on one and the spins separate, it's something that would have to be worked on to get a perfect layout on.

True, I made it so that if you don't pop then you have to wait a tiny bit to start spinning/flipping. I could just add that to lincolns as well.

How would you do grabs then? I like the right thumbstick for grabs because of how many possibilities there are.

I love how people assume it's simple to produce and design sound for a game. What Malcom has done is amazing, but he severely limited by his man power. Adding butters, sound, nollie's, presses, bonk, taps, and ESPECIALLY taking off skis requires LOTS of code.

Adding features and that type of content is not difficult. Adding features to the gameplay is difficult.

IF YOU WANT TO SET LINCOLN LOOPS TO TRIGGERS, DO EVERYTHING THIS GUY SAID.

when you open the program, create your controller layout, and then when your done with that create a profile. You can keep everything in the controller profile the same, but set the triggers to G and H, the respective controls on the keyboard. You can now lincoln with the triggers. Any questions PM me.

im running 10.6.8 on mac with the newest tattlebogger driver and a madcatz gamepad. for some reason the controller only works once in a while and its extremely annoying, unplugging the controller and restarting dont always work.. +K for help

I like the idea of havin L2 and R2 for lincolns. Couldn't you click on R3 to tweak grabs? Seems to make sense since it's the grab button. And I don't mind installing a Ps3 driver if it means I can lincoln and spin at the same time.

Right click only gives you one possible tweak whereas the triggers give you 3.

I'm willing to work with you guys to get the perfect controller set up. I want people to have to do the least amount of work possible to get their controller working. In a perfect work controllers would be just as easy to get working as a mouse. There would be one standard and all controllers would work on all computers without needing drivers.

Trigger buttons could be grabs, but then you only have 4, so I see what you mean. I am just used to on tour stuff. and the tweak button could always just be something like l3 or r3 so you can tweak and maintain the grab/ change the grab easily or something like that.

As I said, setting up the controller usage might not be the hardest but it certainly makes the game that much more enjoyable when it is set up nicely, which usually takes opinions and trial and error.

go right and find some fun jumps, cliffs, stairs and a qp style wall, go left and find some decent stuff that's similar, you can hit this step up at the left near the bottom.

oh and try going on the rainbow and hitting tab to set a marker while on the rail, this if tried enough will send you out to the deep bc at the top of the massive steeps.

But on the left, next to the thing that looks like chad's gap landing, there is a fun line with a big step down over a cat track thing.

If you go out way to the left and start at the top of the hill and then go down to the right, there is a pimp ass backjcountry quarterpipe. There are lots of features to be found if you go out of the park. Huge gaps, cliffs, trannyfinders, hips, quarterpipes, steeps and more. Try going out of the park. Also, once you land the 3rd jump I believe, Go off to the right. There is a little jump on top of a cliff of epic proportions. Hit the backcountry. I think its more fun than the park. The "tab" key is your best friend out there.

The default spawn point is different than the default restart point.
I have no idea why, but it just happens.
