I know it's cliche as fuck, but "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is absolutely the bottom line.
There's NO way to prevent guns from falling into the hands of those who want them. It's just like weed, coke, other drugs. It's here because people want it. Criminals will always want to rob and kill, and there will always be guns to help them do it.
Disallowing guns is absurd. A month ago, a friend of mine watched a man run out of a grocery store covered in blood, he had been stabbed several times by a man inside, and was being chased by the man. A good, honest citizen with a CC saw the scene, drew his firearm and yelled at the man with the knife to get on the ground. Situation neutralized, possible life saved.
By the way, guns are FUN to shoot. Just like skiing is fun. Guns are not inherently deadly, although inherently dangerous if used improperly - just like skiing. Hell, skiing will end your life just as fast as a gun will - be it slow in an avalanche or after a gnarly fall, or instantly by way of a broken neck, etc.
The statement could be said "Physical health aside, it's sad to see so many of you value the fun of skiing over the lives of your fellow citizens..."
It's a little absurd as the existence of skiing isn't a common aide in violent crimes, but it's equally absurd to say that the existence of guns is synonymous with the death of "fellow citizens". If someone wants to kill someone else, and they really mean it, they'll do it. Before guns there were swords, before swords, rocks.
I think that it should be a little harder for people to purchase guns, and I think that it's important that people who own guns understand the responsibility. However, most people die from heart disease every year than violence involving guns, so before we outlaw guns, let's work on Cheetos and soda.
