after the success of last seasons thread and the new season only a short wait away after the euros i think it could be time to kick this off

di matteo is set to be confirmed as the new chelsea manager, will he work miracles again?

who's your team and how well do you think they'll do this year?


i'm a sunderland fan and i think we will be top 10 and maybe just sneak into the europa league

I have seen plenty of calls go against Man U over the years.

Their champions league group doesn't mean fuck all... Shit, once you get past the group anyways, it's a total crapshoot. How else do you explain Chelsea winning it last year?

A classier coach? A nicer kit? A nicer stadium? Talk about being completely subjective.

People like Man U because they win. Anyone who all of a sudden jumps on the City bandwagon is just as bad and for the same reason.

You want someone who's not on the wagon, talk to somebody who supports some masochistic side like Forest or Wolves or

The better club won? I'm not so sure. I consider United, City and Chelsea on the same level. All fantastic clubs with lots of history. All I'm going to say though is... Chelsea are the current Champions of Europe so... better club ATM haha. I think Dortmund will win the Champions League this year. They just look crazy strong, even without Kagawa.

You want a club with history look at Liverpool. It's about all they've got, but they have a remarkable one.


City and chelsea have the same history. Shit teams with sporadic cup wins, and maybe one or two league championships over the course of 100 years. Then a billionaire buys them, gives them unlimited money, and now they're big.

Chelsea I have to give some credit to, because they were starting to look half decent towards the end of the 90s. Would definitely have been more interesting if they hadn't been bought out.

City on the other hand were shit throughout their existence.

The only megarich club I have any respect for is PSG, and that's only because they were a major player in France prior to their billions being spent.



And you also don't seem to know how football works. Sure, chelsea are the champions of europe...but that's only 1 tournament. They also finished 6th in the league, but won the FA cup. So essentially, they're the best team in europe, the 6th best in the EPL, and the best in England.

well this is outright insane.

Arsenal conceded another goal to make the score 5-5, then somehow scored again in the 120th minute to make it 6-5. Then pounded home another, to win 7-5.


I've been watching football, and especially Arsenal, for years. But I struggle to recall a match as insane as this.

gahhh i wish i coulda watched that game. i was refreshing my phone every 20 seconds and was legitely yelled out loud in the middle of class when they scored to make it 5-4. but cmon arsenal you let them score 5 on us??

Me and my buddies were streaming it in the cafeteria. We went absolutely nuts when Chamakh put Arsenal up 5-4, and got progressively louder as more goals were scored. Such an unbelievable comeback.

I am embarrassed of how bad Man C played against Dortmund and Ajax. Not that we lost against Ajax. I do have respect for Ajax.

Just so you know, City had more supporters in Manchester than United had before the Sheijk bought the club. City was founded 1880 and united 1878. United has more titles if thats relevant for you, mainly because they have had more money than city had before. If the money argument should be used, why don't we bring up the teams in the bottom of the league.

And I saw someone hoping that City would stay with Umbro as a kit sponsor, starting 2013-2014 City is sponsored by Nike. 6 year deal.

And we continue to play bad, I didn't like our effort in the game against Swansea either, like someone said: To many good players to keep satisfied.

I'm sorry for bad english. Would make more sense if I could write in Swedish ;) Having a hard time expressing myself so a lot of what I want to be said isn't. Haha.

A lot of posts now but just saw that Richards is out for up to 4 months as well.. Zaba, Silva, Maicon, Garcia and Rodwell is injured as well. Hopefully Silva will be back very soon. We really need him and as for now we only have 2 CMF , Barry and Toure. And Toure could use some rest. So our team isn't that strong right now.. We have a lot of strikers, so that is where the problem with too many good players that all want to play is. In the MF we have problems now. With Richards out from the defense we might have bigger.


Once again, sorry for bad english.

I know, have been a fan before we got money. I know how it was before we competed for the titles. Just that we should play better. We played much better last year, but there is many games to be played yet and we are in the top 3 in PL so. But for now, I'm happy we have Hart. He has saved us many times.

I don't really pay attention to much Football history. I know it existed but, the clubs are different from when they were back then. They may still have similar principals but, it's 2012 man. Not the 1900's. That's the way I see it.

Saying I don't know how Football works is a bit harsh don't you think? Sure clubs consider League position the most important but, doesn't every team really milk winning the Champions league title? I've seen it all over Chelsea and other clubs in the past. As for league titles. I don't know prior to this year but, I haven't seen City really milking it the same way. Could it be because winning the Champions league, with arguably the best of the best teams in Europe is more important from a morale stand point? I personally think so.

On a different note. After watching a few replays... Ivanovic should have only been given a Yellow, Torres still should have been sent off for Stephen Taylor style acting, and Chicarito was still off sides. So, yeah, Di Matteo said it right. Chelsea basically got screwed by poor reffing.

you're right, that was a bit harsh, I apologize.


The fact remains that man city, while they were well supported, were shit. They won the league 3 times, with about 30 years separating each title. Even the FA cup came in intervals, as did the league cup. Look at their list of honours and trophies, and it's more comparable to Blackburn than to any of the other major teams. Though I doubt it will remain that way for long...

What's bizarre about them now that I notice, is how most teams have one or two eras when they were clearly great, and swept the floor clean. (arsenal for example, has the 30s, the early 90s, and the early 2000s) But man city never seemed to be able to put in a consistent run, with consecutive trophies.


As for history...well, you can choose when to start paying attention, but the validity of your argument dies when you start measuring history based on when a certain club did well. That's like me saying that the best years of english football were clearly between 1998 and 2005, just because Arsenal was doing well.


....though those were some excellent years.

to be honest its probably pretty even now but, for united, the percentage made up by local fans of the total amount of fans is waaayyyyyy smaller. (due to an approx global fan base of 659m).

Yeah, it wasn't even about competing tho. Wrote it because of the dude that said MC doesn't have history. And yeah, by achievements in the league and in europe we definitely have less. But idk why that even matter. Two different teams from same town, I respect UTD fans as well as other fans, the best thing there is is to follow and feel love for your team, through thick and thin and trust me I have been a fan for long enough to been through a lot of thin ;). We all share the passion for soccer! On the other hand I might be a little more grumpy when MUFC win but not because they are from the same town as my favorite team but because they are one of the best teams and therefore one of the favorite teams for the league title. But in the end, we are all sharing the passion as I said.

ya i agree he kind of deserved that one, and whoever thought that it only deserved a yellow, it wasnt for the tackle itself, but for the fact that if he didnt take young down it was a 1 0n 1 in on goal, and therefore a very cynical tackle, Torres really didnt deserve that second yellow tho he did embellish the tackle a bit, but there was definitely contact to his shins,

Didn't get to see the game but, based on the possession stats, I'd say Liverpool looked to be playing better.

Hopefully Chelsea can get back to being on top form. I think as long as they keep things together, they seem to be a better team than Manchester United this year.

Hopefully Newcastle will start to get points now that they got most of their tough fixtures out of the way. Hopefully HBA gets me more points in my Fantasy Team as well.
