this effects me in no way whatsoever, i started skiing to get away from the droll competition of youth sports anyways. however i do find it humorous that when the supporters of olympic skiing were pushing for its initiation they completely disregarded the inevitability that judges and intrusive regulation would fuck it up. lol @ everyone who supported freeskiing in the olympics, i'll continue doing my own thing whilst skiing everyday still not giving a fuck :)

That dude, among others, doesn't seem to understand that we are a progressive species, with many progressive sports. Some can be objectively judged, some can't.

Freeskiing and boarding still have a clear mix of style and technicality when it comes to halfpipe - it's often easy to see who should be the Top Three. In Slopestyle, it's so much harder, but people still want to try out to see who is "best". Instead of Montoyas's idiotic "who cares", we could all look at how we can affect this sport at least in the sense of Olympics and FIS judging!

There is always room for non-FIS events, at least until they get it right, with homegrown skier judges, less bias, less emphasis on jumps vs. rails and a knowledge of progression and skill it takes to pull of tricks.

I really hope that this thing doesn't go through, and that snowboard communities reach out to stop this thins as well.

No that's the right way to do it. What we have to do is get everyone to send in hate letters at fis and swear at them, accuse them of witchcraft, and say something like this "THIS IS BLASPHEMY I PRITHEE! WE FREESKIERS WILL NOT TAKE YOUR WITCHCRAFT, SORCERY, AND TYRRANY ANY LONGER!!!!! I HAVE SPOKEN!!!!"

Snowboarders are probably even more upset that a skier (oh noes) may be judging boarding.

Who the judges are doesn't matter to me, I still believe that subjective sports like skiing and snowboarding are degraded by assigning scores to them; It would be the equivalent of setting up hierarchies between various works of art. There is no common denominator from which to rank them, it's subjective. There are no winners or losers in skiing, just differences.

Objectivity is a lie, everything in life is taken in based on preconceived notions and biased conceptions from past experiences. Perhaps the FIS judges can look at the event with more objective opinions than any of us (since they lack any), but is that good or bad? Shouldn't the ones judging it have deeper breadth of a knowledge base in the sport to further form their opinion on who had the better run, after all even the uninformed judges will still carry their subjective anticipations of a gold performance and the elements they want to see in such a run; tricks (aka #future spins), style (aka unmoving robo-steeze), athlete persona (why do you think SW has continued to win gold in every event since his olympic debut), etc..



I wouldn't say I'm apathetic just desensitized and a bit cynical, but I still have more ambition than ElGato's entire person pulsing through my little toe. Honestly though its not that I don't sympathize with the issue its just pointless to worry. Despite what you may think the opinions of newschoolers can't and won't do anything to sway the olympics or FIS judging, and petitions, emails or otherwise will have no affect on policies they have already decided upon. Once again skiing has gone in another direction and there's nothing that can be done about it. Some will follow, some will stay, but on a positive note maybe this might weed out the newbie poser F█GS (like the reddit pussy above), and btw why can't I say F█GS (we can still call people retards at least right?)??? Maybe NS really is growing soft, but if thats the case at least you'll all fit right in with this premonition of soon to be newly incarnated olympic-dick-skiing

That was never my reasoning for not doing anything, I would never act out for something so menial in the first place. As I stated in my original post, skiing, regardless of standings with FIS and the olympics, will be unaffected entirely in a personal capacity so I guess you're right, you win, I really don't care. I said "I sympathize" with an unfortunate situation in the nation of freesking but that doesn't mean I care at all about the repercussions it may hold.

All I'm saying is that no one here is personally affected by this whatsoever (except the very few orange names gracing our presence) and anything they may do to prevent it will be met with harsh immutability. Carry on skiing and quit worrying so much about conventions that none of us will ever be apart of.

At this point if I could take a literal shit on skiing I probably would, but unfortunately I can't so I guess I will proceed to do so metaphorically with my own dickhead asshole shenanigans.

Wow I'm shocked they did this. What's also incredible is to think Sarah worked so hard to get slopestyle and half pipe skiing in the Olympics, and now I feel most of her hard work has been ruined.
