Jeep grand cherokee vs other cars....

lookin at some new cars right now really digging the look and feel of the 2012 jeep grand cherokee v6. Looks sweet, and offers pretty decent off road ability way more than I actually need, plus some space compared to my jetta is real nice.

My question to ns...for the same price as the grand cherokee (roughly 30,000), is there any other good awd alternatives to this. Im not sure really whats out there im not a car person. Looked at some used a4's but kinda small. Id be pretty happy with an awd midsize sedan. Or any other suv that is comparable to the jeep

I like Jeeps, but they consistently are ranked last or damn near last for maintenance and repairs. Just not reliable.

inb4 subbie fan boys, but honestly a wrx falls in that price range and has a good engine and drivetrain for what youre paying. if your buying a grand cherokee know that it will not last for long, your buying a brandname, not a car (well atleast ive been told theyre not that rugged and capable as hyped)

I have a jeep grand cherokee, 2005, ive had it since august and i lifted it, i really havent had any major problems with it, besides a bad wheel bearing, but thats just cus usually wheel bearings go around 100,000 miles, i love mine, the only problem is, is that i have the V8 and its so shitty on gas mileage. besides that i love it.

yea im looking at the v6 for mpg's, and i dont plan on doing any off roading that i wont encounter driving down the normal road. I hear mixed things about reliability. some jeep owners swear by them, others say they break down way to often. I don't see a better buy on the market for this price the way I look at it. I looked at the wrx and its a sick car, but I want something bigger, and an automatic transmission

Lol at people hating on the new Jeeps.

Remember Chrysler is now owned by Fiat and that Chrysler also owns Jeep. Lets just say since they have re-designed the Grand Cherokees they are a very capable and reliable vehicle. If driven them and they are a pretty nice vehicle for a Jeep. I'm not trying to say they are bulletproof vehicles, but they have come along way compared to what they were 5 years ago.

look at 4runners. If you want reliability. go a few years older with 70k and you wont be disappointed or a tacoma.

Subaru Forester XT.  Car-like handling, with a shitload of space.  The AWD system they have is top of the line.  You really can't beat it if you're looking for a ski car.  I'll answer any questions you may have.

my family has had at least one jeep at all times since 95, and we havent had a lot of problems with repairs like everyone else says they do. but the new ones are a lot heavier and drive like fucking boats, which i dont really like a whole lot, but thats just preference. a lot of people like that.

jeeps are the shit. i had a 98 laredo till a couple years ago and had to get a new one cause i ran that motherfucker right into the ground at about 200k miles. 

copped an '05 cherokee with some ski racks and i love it. probably won't get any other car for a loong time

My dad has the 2012 grand cherokee and its boss. Rides great, great fit and finish, dec gas mileage 23 on the highway if you use the cruise and keep your foot outta it. Save some money and get the 2011, its the same thing. Nothing is more dumb than buying a brand new whip, you loose so much value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Plus the 2011 will still be under warranty.

Look at the 4motion passat wagon
Subie outback/forester
Saab makes a wagon that is very similar to the subie version

I have an '09 Grand Cherokee with a hemi, and I love it. I can fit like 4 people with their ski stuff in it, an dit handles well in wintery conditions, so its perfect for skiing. I've driven it for a year and put 25k miles on it, and there hasn't been any problems with repairs/maintenance. It's also fun for off roading obviously.

4Runner will be much better than a Grand Cherokee. They'll last way longer and they fit right into the exact same category.

no offense to you, i know not everyone is a faggot ricer like me that likes fast cars and shit lol...

but i can't understand how anyone could justify paying $30,000 for an SUV or something...unless you're looking at a jeep SRT8, and even then i'm meh on it. you could buy a legit nice car, and make it fast and reliable. or buy a cheap car, make it fast, and have a nice DD still for 30k man. i doubt you care, but i can't just let people do this without telling them what they're missing out on lol.

my dad has a jeep grand cherokee from 2009 and it's his daily driver, we also use it to tow our CJ7 to offroad contests/trials and even with pretty slick roadtires it holds its ground in mud and wet grassland, pretty awesome jeep if you ask me...
it's also pretty nice on the road for being such a big car, great acceleration for its size ....

+ a really cool thing imho is that it still has low gears for driving offroad which many similar cars no longer have...

i really don't care about a "fast" car. A 7 second 0-60 is plenty fast for me. Plus there is a speed limit. Dont get me wrong i love driving sick cars fast. But nothing pisses me off more than a cheap car that is suped up. My outlook on it, a ncie fast car is a goal in life. If I can afford a ferrari or an audi r8 one day, great i made it. I dont want to drive like a supra with 400 horsepower

i have a 04 liberty and theres been no troubles with it. its a great car. the new jeeps look way fancier than the older ones, which i dont really find appealing, but they do still look sick

My girlfriend drives an 08 grand cherokee WK with the 5.7l hemi and I love driving that beast..I know you're looking at the 6cyl (smart move if youre driving a lot) but when I get on the gas in her cherokee that thing moves its 2.5 tons pretty damn fast, not really suprising considering its rated at 400 lb/ft

You will not be disappointed with the WK's..they drive like they are planted in the road and handle well for weighing nearly 5000 lbs..you'll feel incredibly secure driving that thing in all weather conditions as long as you but on a decent set of shoes

I have a 2012 jeep grand cherokee and I LOVE IT. I can post pics later if you want. 6 cyl runs great, i get about 18mpg and the selec-terrain is pretty fun to mess around with.

If gas is going to be an issue than by a Jeep, they are nice and comfy, can fit a decent amount of people and drive and handle well especially in the snow. I drove my 1998 grand cherokee for 2 year and my only issue was the battery dying every once and a while.

you could get a used audi A4 avant, maybe an S4 idk. its got space being a wagon, looks slick, fun to drive, handles well in snow, non-terrible gas milage

around 115 got into some minor stuff, the undercarage and everything is just rusting away and everything is wearing out. But as long as I don't get behind on it she still runs great.

Thats a pretty naive statement.

Buying new is the only way to know that the vehicle hasn't been:
Poorly maintained
Towed overweight loads
Been off-roaded
Been shagged in
Had boogers stuck under the seats
Been driven by a naked masturbating man leaking ass-sweat all over the drivers seat

Yeah you gotta be able to afford it, but if you're in the market for a nearly new car sometimes its worth the extra money for the warranty and the peace of mind.

5 speeds were only in grand cherokees in the early early early 93 model year, technical build date of 1992. ZJs FTW!! 98 with the 5.9L 360ci engine were tits!

I've been driving my dad's '06 Jeep Liberty for the past several months because my car kicked the bucket and I need a car at school. It's ok, but I do a lot of long distance driving (I got to school in CT and my parents live in PA), and Jeeps just aren't very comfortable cars for driving a long distance. I always have a stiff back at the end of the 4.5 hour drive.

My parents just got a '12 Subaru Legacy and I think the car's amazing. If you're looking for a AWD sedan for under 30K definitely check it out. It's a great car, rides smooth, amazing gas mileage for an AWD, and has some good interior features (heated seats, etc.).

I have a 2005 WK and its pretty nice and works really well in all conditions. But mines a v8 and destroys a tank of gas pretty quickly. You might wanna look at a FJ, 4Runner, Highlander, Liberty. Pretty sure all of those you could get in leather around your price range other than the FJ that doesn't come with it.

Yeah but with AWD your gas mileage sucks dickhole compared to other cars that are 4wd (able to turn it off) or 2wd. I own a subaru, and the always on awd is the one thing that I absolutely HATE about it. 100% unnecessary, costs me money, and makes for a much worse ride on bumpy roads, since all wheels are driven, and therefore get traction on the bumps and jerk the car around twice as much.
