Just finished The Forgotten Highlander by Alistair Urquhart. It is a true story, written about his experiences with the Japanese in WWII, he is so incredibly misfortunate and if it was a film I doubt I would have believed it was true. It is not a gruelling read, and definately worth getting hold of.

If you're really into WWII era history, I'd recommend anything by William Shirer. Bit dry to read, but loaded with information. Also, "Colditz: The Full Story" for an interesting read on basically the "highest security" POW camp during WWII Germany.

If anyone enjoys listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis's bio, "Scar Tissue" gives you a crazy backdrop on his life. It was a great read and you can tell what almos every one of their songs is about from reading it.

Some of these suggestions kill me. The Alchemist and Siddartha are both awful books. The only reason I could see anybody ever reading them is if you're high as fuck and you want something pseudo-spiritual to read.

A better book? Read The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien.
